Today’s engineering education demands in-depth theoretical knowledge as well


as practical knowledge on industrial eld. Traditionally, theoretical engineering
education is achieved in campus through direct class room and laboratory
learning. However, Industrial training provides rst real world confrontation to
engineering students. ‘Industrial Training’ or internship in factories open mutual
bene ts that helps nurture student growth, enhance university-industry
relationships, ll the gap between theoretical & practical knowledge and
challenge the faculty to include up-to-date information in the teaching
curriculum. By industrial training, undergraduate engineering students to be
well-prepared with real world experience so they can anticipate the working
challenges.

Industrial training is an essential part of the education in textile engineering. It


helps to know the process performed in an industry. It would help solving below
issues before a student join in job.

Fill in the gap between academic study & industrial works.


Know about actual factory environment.
Learn about the processes and procedures that an industry follows.
Learn new skills.
Learn industry etiquette.
Know about the duties, responsibilities & opportunities of a professional
engineer in the textile industry.
Improve communication ability.
Explore career interest and review the career plan
Developing a professional network

Prepare well before you start your Industrial Training.

Points should be noted in ‘Industrial Training’. Following points would be helpful


to make Industrial Training effective-

Diary/Note Book: It is the responsibility of the student to record all notes in


the diary/note book and to keep the content updated. Each daily record is
to be veri ed by the supervisor. The Diary/Note Book should contain
summery of each daily activities, list of tools used, process ow diagrams,
ow charts, sketches, data and related machine diagrams, results and
outcomes of the activities, constructive comments, analysis and
references to text books, standards and other technical information.

Communicate with responsible o cer: It is one of the rst things for the
students to communicate with responsible o cer of each & every
department which will help to know every detail about respective
departments. It also increases the communication ability of the students
and helps building relation with the o cers.

Industrial overview: Every textile industry is established with his own


mission, vision & goals. The textile industry also follows some rules &
regulation about compliance, environmental commitment, workers health &
safety, emergency existence etc. They maintain some quality standards as
well. So, it is important to know the industrial overview for intern students.
Industrial overview would cover – name, type, year of establishment,
location/ address, sponsors, associate organization, product mix, annual
production capacity, project cost, history of the project development,
physical infrastructure, production management, marketing activities etc.

Try to reach every corners of the factory: For produced nished goods
from raw materials, every textile industry follows a process diagram.
Different types of works are performed in different departments. So
students should work with different departments following the process.
The major departments of a textile industry are production, administration,
laboratory, quality assurance, maintenance, utility services, store &
inventory control, marketing, planning etc.

Questioning to understand: Normally factory staffs don’t have enough time


to guide an intern student properly. But normally they don’t deny helping
when asked. In this point, student should remain questioning factory
counter parts to learn more. Building good relation will help getting
information from experience factory staffs.

An effective and successful ‘Industrial Training’ would help intern preparing for
 job mentally and physically on the other hand would allure the factory keep the 
intern by offering job immediately.
