If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which
he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.
Arup Saha Shuvo is the co-owner of কাচ্চি খ ার- Kacchikhor, situated in 99, Karim
Chamber, Motijheel C/A (Beside Biman Office), Dhaka Division 1000, Bangladesh. Arup
Saha started this business with his 4 other friends on 31st October 2019. The official Facebook

This is one of the well-known Bengali food cafés in the Motijheel area. The Motijheel area is
very busy because there are many corporate offices so within a short period of time it became
a famous café in the area also in terms of the catering industry in Dhaka city. This is an inspiring
story of a man who believes there will be obstacles but determination and willingness can make
every tough thing possible.
‘The best place to find a helping hand is at the end of your own arm.’
Arup Saha is 21 years old man who lives in Dhaka by born currently studying BBA in the
marketing department at North South University. At this shortage, he opened a café with his
friends. The starting journey is also interesting. When Arup was in class 8 he started to earn
his own money by taking pictures at weddings. As days passed he involved himself in many
works such as delivery service, working as an accountant in his teacher’s shop. Slowly he
realized he should not take money from his parents to fulfill his extra demands because now
it’s his responsibility to take of his parents. After completing HSC in 2019 he thought to start
something on his own but the main obstacle was money and not getting permission and support
from family about business because his father was a government job holder so he didn’t
appreciate the idea of business. He shared the idea to do something which is a stable business
with his two others friend Proloy Kumar and Mritunjoy Chakravarti. They came up with an
idea to open a Kacchi shop because people love to eat Kacchi also it’s going to be a good source
to provide their service at weddings and birthday programs. But due to liquidity shortage, they
offered their two more friends whether they are interested to do so. Luckily they agreed and
invested BDT40,000 Taka per and by investing 2,00,000 Taka in the introduction stage he
started his venture কাচ্চি খ ার- Kacchikhor at Motijheel, Dhaka with 2 chefs and 9 waiters. At
this moment his business is in the growth stage. কাচ্চি খ ার- Kacchikhor is Arup Saha’s first
business he did not know how to run a business in the long run. But his determination, risk-
taking tendency, obsession with his business made everything possible. Right now in Dhaka
city, there are many well-known Kacchi stores Kacchi Bhai, Sultan’s Dine, Kolkata Kacchi,
etc. Additionally, it’s not so easy to stay in position and beat these famous kacchi stores and
create a position. Right now people know কাচ্চি খ ার- Kacchikhor because of its taste and
quality along with Arup Saha’s self-confidence, passion, creativity, risk-taking tendency, the
right decision at the right time.

কাচ্চি খ ার- Kacchikhor started on 31st October 2019 till now it’s running. After starting this
business, he faced a lot of difficulties while furnishing and designing the café. While he
invested his savings as capital he did not have enough money left to do something unique. He
did not make much profit in the beginning also a few months later the government announced
a strict lockdown from March-May 2020. He became hopeless about his business because it
became hard to bear all the expenses. He had to cut off 3 employees that time because there
was no option left and had to pay 70% money to the remaining employees and 60% as a rental
cost without pursuing the business. Many outsiders suggested that he should close the business
because being a student it’s not going to be easy for him to continue it in this pandemic. Slowly
things became normal when the government announced to keep all the shops open till 5 pm
and opened the dine-in and delivery systems. Above all things wasn’t in control because
delivery charges became high also dine in option became limited. Some of the safety measures
were commenced at that time such as ‘No mask, no entry’, temperature checking, and sanitizing
hands before entry. To cover up the loss and make a profit after the strict lockdown till now
কাচ্চি খ ার- Kacchikhor applied pricing strategy and started to provide offers and affordable
lunch boxes to targeted consumers by ensuring high quality and tasty food. Items are Kacchi,
Plain polau, Mutton curry, Chicken roast, Jali kabab, firni, chutney, Borhani and soft drinks.
As there are so many competitors but by covering up all the obstacles and not closing the
business কাচ্চি খ ার- Kacchikhor showed that this is now one of the most Bengali cuisine
catering industries in Dhaka.

persistence.’
In Dhaka city, there are already so many popular Kacchi stores but কাচ্চি খ ার- Kacchikhor
successfully managed to stay on top. Arup Saha’s business is successful because he maintained
the quality and taste better than his competitors. Proper promotions on Facebook by making
interesting memes with a perfect caption people covered the maximum reach even in this
pandemic. Additionally, the dedication and hospitality of all the owners and employees made
every impossible thing possible. They maintained and followed all the preferences of customers
so that they can easily gain customer loyalty. For the growth, Arup Saha implemented a
marketing development strategy. The main target customer of কাচ্চি খ ার- Kacchikhor in the
initial stage was corporate people as it’s in the Motijheel area but now the target is students and
middle-class families for this they are offering a lunch box consists of Basmati rice, mutton
curry, and Kabab only at 130taka. Also there are some combo offers such as Kacchi combo,
Budget meal, Wedding bonanza where one can pick items based on their preferences. This
strategy is still helping them a lot to stay in the position with the competitors. In the maturity
stage, they are planning to expand their business in Khilgaon and Wari.
“One part at a time, one day at a time, we can accomplish any goal we set for ourselves.
From childhood, Arup Saha followed his passion and at this stage, by being an entrepreneur
it’s like dreams come true to him. During this short period of time, he gained success.
According to him one of his greatest successes is they served food in Joy Bangla Concert on
7th March where the Prime minister tastes the food. Also, they serve parcels in many corporate
meetings near Motijheel, Gulshan, and Banani. apart from these things on a regular basis, they
serve food at weddings which is a great feel according to Arup Saha.
“Self-reliance is the only road to true freedom, and being one’s own person is its ultimate
reward.
To conclude I asked Arup Saha whether he wants to give any advice to the young entrepreneurs
he replied that Sometimes all we need is to trust ourselves a little more so depend on yourself
and try not to lean on others. Because Self-reliance is the ability to rely on oneself for things
rather than relying on others. You could opt to demonstrate your independence by trekking the
Appalachian Trail alone. People who are self-reliant are independent and self-sufficient.
Interview Transcript
Due to the covid situation, it wasn’t possible for me to take face to face interview so I took
the interview over google meet. After completing the basic introduction session, I asked
him some questions.
As কাচ্চি খ ার- Kacchikhor is now one of the most well-known restaurants and the man
behind this success is Arup Saha so I asked him what motivates him to become an
entrepreneur.
Arup Saha replied that from childhood he wanted to do something on his own and following a
fixed routine, strategy and timing is not preferable for him. He loves to add some creative ideas,
designs, or methods that’s why he chose to become an entrepreneur. Always in his mind, he
has a risk-taking tendency and passion towards his own ideas. He also said that it’s a great
feeling to be his own boss which divers him to be an entrepreneur.
Then I asked him why did he choose this idea by knowing this there are a lots of
competitors including Sultan’s dine or kacchi Bhai. Is there any difference from them to
his?
He replied that he loves to take risks. And kacchi is one of the food items people won’t say no.
people love to eat it once a week and it’s a great food item for catering industries. he also added
that people like kacchikhor more than other kacchi stores because the taste and quality are up
to the mark also they don’t use too much oil and spices (powder) which is harmful to the body,
especially for cholesterol levels. They make sure that a 35 years old man with a big tummy can
easily eat their kacchi without regret. Also, the price is comparatively low than others so that
people from every level can purchase
Next I asked him what are the things he look for an employee to work here.
Arup Saha replied that food is something which becomes more delightful and attractive on how
you serve this. So before taking an employee he always tries to ensure that is the person is
going to be friendly enough so that customer will come again and bring two more people by
remembering the hospitality.
Next I asked him what are the challenges he faced while starting the business and due to
pandemic how it affects the business.
He replied at first his family did not support his idea because he is a student also his age is not
that much during this age it is not a right decision to take a big risk but later they support his
idea. He also added that after investing all the savings as capital a few months later due to
maintenance purposes he felt a shortage of money that time he had to take a loan from one of
his big brothers after making a profit everything became normal also he mentioned he did not
have to put much effort to gain customers as kacchikhor is located at popular corporate area
Motijheel. At the beginning of the pandemic, he faced a lot of difficulties like other
entrepreneurs. He did not make a profit for three months many people suggested that he should
close this business. Also, he had to pay the rental costs and employee salary which became
very tough. He had to cut off 3 employees that time because there was no option left and had
to pay 70% money to the remaining employees and 60% as a rental cost without pursuing the
business.
Then I asked him what are the steps he took to overcome from the loss due to pandemic
and did he take any new business strategy.
Arup Saha replied that to cover up the loss and make a profit after the strict lockdown till now

Then I asked him as now the business condition is stable what are the changes he is going
to make in the future.
He replied that the main target area, in the beginning, was Motijheel and till now it’s going
very well beyond their expectations. They are getting huge orders daily from corporate people
around. Now for the maturity stage, they are planning to expand their business in Khilgaon and
Wari. Also, they will add some new curry items with kacchi.
Next I asked him, is there any difficult or steps he has taken regarding intellectual
procedure.
Arup Saha replied that he went through a lot regarding this intellectual procedure. While
selecting the name there were some disagreements so they create a poll in Foodbank by giving
two options কাচ্চিয়ানা- Kacchiaana and কাচ্চি খ ার- Kacchikhor. The majority voted for
কাচ্চি খ ার- Kacchikhor. So they select a business name. 10 days before opening the shop after
completing all the procedures regarding the tread license issued by the city corporation they
came to know that there is a new café in Farm-gate by coping their business name. Arup Saha
went to the place with all the papers but the owner of the Farm gate’s argued and said that Arup
still did not open his store so it does not make sense. A day letter Police went at the place check
all the papers and found out that Arup Saha’s papers were right from the beginning the opposite
party copied his business name and later they changed the name as ‘কাচ্চি খ ার- Kacchikhor
Restaurant’. Then Arup got back his own business name. কাচ্চি খ ার- Kacchikhor. Also, the
opposite party who steal their business name they are permanently closed from 23rd May, 2020
Then I asked him what is his greatest accomplishments or a memorable business moment.
Arup said he faced many difficulties in the beginning but he never thought the idea of closing
his business. He said his accomplishments maybe won’t make sense to others but he felt very
happy and proud when all the foods were served from his business কাচ্চি খ ার- Kacchikhor in
Joy Bangla Concert where Prime minster ate his food. It is a really memorable moment for
him. Also on a regular basis the love and trust he gets from the regular customers it’s like
heaven to him.
Next I asked him what are the steps he has taken so far to promote his business and in
the future are there any plans regarding promotion.
He replied that so far he is promoting his business and offers through the Facebook page in
short social media marketing. Through Facebook posts and memes, he gets a lot of responses
from consumers. There is no official website soon they are going to launch one. Also, they are
going to focus on adding some ads on YouTube videos.

Lastly, I asked him is there any advice or suggestion he want to give to the youth or new
entrepreneurs.
He replied that one should always keep in his mind it’s your duty to look after your parents and
after a certain time you should not take money from them to fulfill your desires rather you
should do something to fulfill theirs. These are the things that were going inside his head and
it motivated him to be an entrepreneur and earn his own money. He also added that he was a
photographer in wedding events also worked as a delivery person to deliver boxes of fish from
Mawa. So one should do every work unless he reaches into a work which makes him feel worth
it. Also by having dedication and hard-working tendency can make anybody successful.
