Funeral services offered are priced according to the caskets and lightings provided. The cheaper the
material used the lesser the price. At St Peter’s Chapel price starts around P 15 000 for 3-7 days of
service and can go as high as P 300 000 depending on the caskets provided. The chapel located in
Malolos is a choice to use, but nonetheless home service is a choice of the client. Chapel use
however has a limited days given to accommodate all clients. Moreover, being in a populated area
such as Bulacan, services are in an average of 15 to 20 clients for a month. Furthermore, life plan is
another service given by the company. It is an insurance policy with a certain amount needed to be
paid, but can be used for a lifetime. The plan is a very good offer because it can be applicable for a
long period of time withstanding the changes in pricing around that can vary due to inflation. I think
the performance of the business is very good, being in the city where it is easier for people to access
and the life plan card is economical. Though the business is good, there is always room for
improvement. Nonetheless increasing competition can be a problem in the long run.
Below are the pricing for every services offering:
Location Strategy
The location of the St Peter’s Chapel can be found in Blas Ople Road, Bulihan, Malolos City. It is
approximately 5 minutes from the main road and 15 minutes from the public market. The area is very
ideal for a funeral chapel having lesser traffic because it is not to close from the main road. It also has
enough parking place to accommodate the two chapels if simultaneously used. Moreover, Public
utility vehicles are available on this route.
Furthermore, even if Malolos City area are floodway zone during rainy seasons, the chapel is
elevated enough that it can withstand it if such happens. Nonetheless, it is not in the main market
area thus which more people it can find more clients. On the other hand, St. Peter chapel is relatively
mainstream funeral parlor thus it manages to have a lot of clients still. Thus, if it could have an office
in the market area, it could boost more publicity and can gain more attention which can sum up to
new clients.
Human resource management:
The branch is a family owned business and some of its employees are relatives. Also the business
can be categorized as midsize in comparison with other funeral chapels. It has about 20 plus
employees not including on calls. Thus, the business doesn’t really need to employ much people
unless they have many booked clients. In cases like that they tend to have on call drivers and
employees which helps them during peak season.
In terms of hiring, the owner hold simple interview in signing new applicants which needs basic
requirement according to the a job they are pursuing. In a family owned business like this, which can
be categorized as sole proprietorship, it doesn’t really need a human resource department.
Furthermore, workers can exercise other jobs because it can be relatively informal such as driving,
carrying materials, cleaning etc.

In my assessment of their human resource management, they managed their employees accordingly
by paying them with correct level of wages and attaining to their personal needs because most of the
employees are stays in the area.
Process and Capacity Planning:
The company approaches every year with the same mindset of giving good services. The process in
services are design in a process of embalming and casketing, memorial service for three to five days,
and burying in the last day. This process is standard for every funeral Chapels in the Philippines. In
terms of capacity planning, materials are stored properly at the warehouse at the back of the
company. Some caskets are in the viewing area in front and some are in the warehouse for safe
keeping. Capacity planning in this type of business doesn’t really need much attention because
materials and supplies needed are limited and can be stored for the long run.
Job Design:
All employees are paid according to the level of their work. Drivers and helpers are compensated with
the minimum wage in Bulacan City. They are also given a place to stay for free given the nature of
business is 24 hours. Compensation is given every end of the week. Paper works are assigned to the
clerks in the office and other accounting activities. Thus, Clerks are given a place to stay in the office
to occupy clients in different time. Team Building and company outings are given to employees twice
a year strengthen and create a better work environment.
Lastly, Job designation in the company are enumerated as follows: Accounting clerk, Branch
manager, Driver, Embalmer, Helpers, auditor.

Supply Chain management:
Most of the materials to provide services needed are supplied by a specific company. As such they
are the lights, carpet, steel tools etc. needed in providing a prolific chapel service. In my opinion it is
easier to have a sole provider of the steel tools because it can create a good relationship and have a
discount from the said supplier. Although having different supplier can give you different choices in a
business it is important to build relationship from partner companies. The caskets however are
ordered from different supplier, other caskets are made here in the Philippines and other are imported
outside the company. Thus the pricing is leveled from where it’s made. Wooden caskets are cheaper
than steel type. Nonetheless imported caskets are much pricier.

Scheduling and maintenance:

The branch has its own personal mechanic which manages the emergency vehicles and
carriers. The mechanic is an on call duty from Nueva Ecija and sometimes stays the branch for car
repairs. The chapels are cleaned before and after use to ensure the safety of the mourners.
Embalming area is maintained and cleaned. The company has always improved its chapel area.
Newer chapel pews are used nowadays compared from the time that I worked there. The chapel
areas have been renovated and currently stronger air-conditioner is being used. However, problem
arises due to the electricity provider in the area. Some days there are fluctuating current which causes
blackout. This can be difficult in the environment of the chapel furthermore to the mourners.
Nonetheless, the improvement in the place is very commendable.
