The widespread portfolio of capricorn WORKS reaches from the construction to manufacturing of
engine components, complete engines, as well as vehicle construction, homologation,
engineering and optimization.

Porsche Performance Packages

capricorn WORKS offers customers a premium program for performance enhancement of
historic, current, as well as air and water cooled Porsche models. The extensive performance
program includes forged pistons, conrods and cylinder liners.

Private customers, museums

capricorn WORKS offers high end restorations and services for historic racecars. Herewith
vehicles of renowned brands steeped in history are in focus at capricorn WORKS.

The affectionate restoration is focused on using as many original party and materials as possible.
If they cannot be purchased we are manufacturing the missing parts true to original in individual
construction. These exclusive spare parts can be purchased from our workshop independent of
services to have them in store in case of need. We find the best solution for every problem.

A specialty of capricorn WORKS is the adjustment of racecars for the use in competition. We
regularly conduct test drives for our customers. During race season we offer the services of
transport to the race, service at the track as well as support and coaching of drivers, mechanics
and guests. Motor sport is the origin of the company, which makes it an affair of the heart for us.

capricorn Carrera Engine

Carrera – this term is as much part of the Porsche vocabulary as is “Turbo” or “911”. lt roots in a
race win of a Porsche 550 Spyder at the legendary Carrera Panamericana in Mexico in 1954.
The racing engine they used was unique: termed “Carrera motor”, it became part of automobile
history.

The remarkably powerful engine with four camshafts, constructed by Dr. Ernst Fuhrmann, was
used successfully in a row of famous Porsche racing cars, from the 356 Carrera to the 550 and
718 Spyder to the 904 Carrera GTS.

capricorn WORKS produces and manufactures the 4 cylinder Carrera engine of types 547 and
587. For this purpose the Know-How of all divisions of capricorn GROUP is being exploited to
ensure manufacturing from a single source. This product is determined by the expertise of
decades, but also by an incomparable passion for these cars. Herewith capricorn WORKS does
not only ensure an unrivalled vertical integration but also the compliance of continuously high
quality standards.

capricorn Carrera Engine | Crankcase

The crankcase is being cast in sand casting from AISi. Without waiving originality we paid special
attention to the heavy-duty components.

We can deliver all necessary components of the crankcase, as well as various special screws
ex-works. To give just one example we can offer cylinder studs in quality 12.9 with rolled threads.

You can purchase crankcases of the capricorn Carrera 587 engine individually. In addition to this
we offer the crankcase in different extension stages up to the complete engine.

capricorn Carrera Engine | Pistons & Barrels

The production of pistons and barrels for the capricorn Carrera 587 engine is influenced by our
experience gained from uncounted races with air cooled engines.

An improved coating of running surfaces, in combination with modernized piston rings, leads to
less oil consumption, less friction and therefore to an increased performance and more reliability.

Pistons are being delivered complete with piston rings, pins and clips. Head gaskets can be
purchased individually or in set. Cylinders can also be purchased in set. Base gasket and
adjusting rings are no longer required.

capricorn Carrera Engine | Cylinder Head

Cylinder heads of the capricorn Carrera 587 engine are processed in sand casting, just as the
crank case we paid special attention to the heavy-duty components.

Through an optimal composition of in and outlet ducts we reach a smooth power curve with good
torque that is available even at moderate shaft speed. This fact improves the drivability of the
engine significantly.

You can purchase capricorn cylinder heads in your desired development condition from
machined cast parts to modules ready for installation.

capricorn Carrera Engine | Bevel Drive

The famous bevel drive is remanufactured with modern alloys by capricorn WORKS within the
original specification. This offers the opportunity to replace defective bevel drives in the original
Carrera engine.

A set includes four bevel drives, as well as the corresponding spur gears for camshafts and the
intermediate shaft and oil pump drive. Shafts and gears are teamed and permanently marked.

When exchanging bevel drives we request to also refurbish bearings of bevel drives. Bearings
can also be purchased from us.

Bearings

Impeccable bevel drive bearings are one of the key factors for the precise adjustment of timings
within the Carrera engine. capricorn bronze bearings are being delivered to your engine ready for
adaptation.

Bevel drive bearings are available in normal or oversize to ensure size accuracy with a used
case or ground shafts. Oversize bearings need to be adjusted individually.

CNC manufactured bearing shields of hardened and tempered steel are available with both, one
and three recesses.

capricorn Carrera Engine | Camshafts

capricorn camshafts are available with original profile. You can purchase the camshafts as spare
parts or as complete component.

The bevel drive gear is not included in scope of supply of the camshaft. It is part of the bevel
drive set.

capricorn Carrera Engine | Rocker Arms

The forged capricorn DLC rocker arms for Carrera valve train are coated in the same modern
DLC coating as the proven rocker arms from the renowned 24 hours races of Le Mans and
Nürburgring. The DLC coating minimizes friction and abrasion.

To adjust valve clearance we deliver a version with divided locking clamp, as it enables a more
precise adjustment of the valves. In case of questions concerning further details feel free to

capricorn Carrera Engine | Crankshaft

Crankshafts are produced with the same modern production processes as our current
successful products for motor sport. They are manufactured in our production site in St. Etienne,
France.

Crankshafts are nitrided, bearing and surfaces are sanded and polished. We can offer the fly
wheel to the plain beared crankshaft in series version, as well as in a lighter racing version.
Further we can offer special screws with pilot section or distributor drive and the pulley ex works.

We can not only offer crankshafts for plain bearing engines but also for multi-piece roller bearing
crankshafts with Hirth coupling positioning system. To use the plain bearing crankshaft with
optimised oil tracing you need our fitted main bearings.

capricorn Carrera Engine | Conrods

As the crankshafts the conrods are manufactured with the same modern production processes
as our successful current products for motor sport. The are manufactured in our production site in
Mönchengladbach, Germany.

We can not only offer conrods for plain bearing engines but also for multi-piece roller bearing
crankshafts with Hirth coupling positioning system.

For usage of roller bearing conrods we recommend our fitted big end bearings. Bearing rings and
cages for roller-mounted conrods are also available.

capricorn Carrera Engine | Oil Pump

The CNC manufactured capricorn oil pump is being delivered completely mounted. Through an
improvement in design we are able to solve the problem of sealing. The precise production
ensures reliable function.

For the production of oleograph valve pistons we use 30CrNiMo8 steel. Plugs of oleograph valve
pistons with quality 8.8 already have the necessary drills for the locking wire.

The original tin moulded cover of the oil intake is milled from aluminum. This leads to an
improved tightness.

capricorn Carrera Engine | Fan Wheel /

Alternator

The spider rim of the fan wheel is manufactured in confectionery tradition and is connected to the
CNC-manufactured hub with aluminum location hole. The hub of the Fan wheel for the big
alternator is manufactured from sheet steel with steel flange, it is provided for available
alternators with shaft diameter 15 mm.

Alternator is being delivered ready for mounting, if requested with matching regulator. Of course
we also offer the divided pulley and matching tappet.

We also offer casted holders of fan and alternator and the fastening rings ex works. In individual
manufacture the sheet metal application for various engines can be manufactured.

capricorn Carrera Engine | Distributor

The distributor, which is almost completely manufactured by capricorn GROUP, with Beru
distributor cap is available as individual part and as pre-finished set for mounting at the cylinder
head or including one of the various V-drives and individual parts. V-drives and individual parts
can also be purchased separately.

The distributor is stuffed with a common distributor rotor arm, contact and capacitor to ensure a
safe supply with regularly needed wear parts. Distributor caps are being fitted for threaded cable
connections by us.

Distributors are also available in a model for original Bosch distributor caps and rotor arms.
Original Bosch parts however are hard to find in functioning state, as the production of them has
stopped.

capricorn Carrera Engine | Carburetor

Carburetors of type Weber IDA are available in matching configuration and with levers fitted to
the capricorn 587 engine. On request we also offer carburetors with other spray systems.

Intake pipes are fitted to the carburetor and capricorn Carrera 587 cylinder heads. In comparison
to the original engine they are stuffed with an o-ring groove for sealing at the side of the engine.
The intake pipes are adapted to the carburetor and the capricorn Carrera cylinder heads 587.
They are equipped with an O-ring groove for sealing at the motor side, which in combination with
the O-ring carrier at the screw connection allows a decoupled fastening.

For corrosion protection intake pipes are galvanised. The available clamping claw is CNC milled
from solid blocks. Insulation panels are individually fitted to intake pipes and carburetors during
assembly in our workshop.
