Let's check how well you understand our lesson!

What You Need to Know: Matter

We will be following the 1st The student will investigate

and understand how different
grade Virginia SOL standards.
common materials interact
with water. Students will
experiment with different
liquids to see which dissolves.
Life Process

The student will investigate

and understand that plants
have basic life needs and
functional parts and can be
classified according to
certain characteristics.
Engage

Students will engage

5E Learning with challenging
situations, questions,
Inquiry based and use their prior
learning knowledge to
stimulate interest.
Explore

Students will explore,

previous knowledge
5E Learning will be challenged, and
Inquiry based new ideas will be
learning created.

Explain

5E Learning Student will explain their

Inquiry based outcome from the
activites and new
learning knowledge is gained and
applied.

Elaborate
Students will apply what
they have learned and
5E Learning extend knowledge to new
Inquiry based situations.
learning Evaluate
Students will reflect what they
learned by completing
assessments and Exit ticket.
LESSON ONE
We will be learning about Matter in the first few weeks. Students
will show how different common materials interact with water,
students will put one candy cane
and flour in three different
containers filled with the following liquids: cold water, vinegar, and
vegetable oil. Students will observe and record changes to see
how some solids dissolve when interacted with different liquids.
Lesson Two
In Lesson 2 we will be learning
about Life Processes. Students
will plant seeds, show what they
need to grow and parts of the
plant. Students will observe,
record and list parts of a plant.
Books and Videos we
will be using this year.

WELL DONE! NOW LET'S DO
IT AT HOME.

All activities can be done at home. I encourage the students to show

show you what they learned. There will be details of each activity on
Remindapp.

Example: This can be something you have different answers to or you all agree on and had a lot to talk about.
