Our Project:

To start off initially we talked to few social activists, and welfare organizations, in order to
collect funds from them for the project we have under consideration, we contacted Umar Saleem
organization TRSF” unfortunately we get to know because of strict lockdown all around the
province their physical activities related to distribution and awareness campaigns have already
been postponed and few of the activities they performed related to road safety was done before
we came in to their contact. So after a couple of weeks of negotiation the agreed to fund us but
excused to partake in any of the activities. So we decided to do something ourselves and forget
about third party involvement just for a while. Mainly because of our past, as we had done most
of the awareness campaigns and distribution drives all ourselves without involving third party.
Yes, it would have been great if we had their support, but due to extraordinary situation in
province their reasoning sounds quite understandable and logical to us.
However, they did show agreement on funding this project which was a huge help to us.

The plan we formed consist on the following steps down below:

• Identify Suppliers, negotiate with them about a deal which benefit both the parties. We
thought about purchasing road safety equipment in bulk first to attract the supplier and
second were to receive as much wave off we can.

• After procuring the equipment, we will market them on our own respected social media
pages, by asking bloggers to spread our message, by Instagram and Facebook stories and
finally through our blog which will cover the whole journey, letting the audience know
who we are and our purpose behind this project.

• Our distribution and awareness drives will begin after we market the products in our own
personal network (family, friends, Work, and university colleagues) after that for we
identified few of the heaviest traffic roads of Karachi, where can start this initiative and
spread the word.

• The selling part of the equipment will be completely online by availing the facility of our
very own website. www.willingforwelfare.com
Enough of the talking let’s start the journey

Identifying Suppliers:

So as it was discussed we first visited AKBAR ROAD SADDAR MARKET to identify

suppliers. After a long market survey, we found one supplier whom we convinced about
the price we’re after and the quality we thrive. The deal was made! The supplier gave us
a week time to get back and procure the equipment since there was a shortage in market
due to limited supply available because of tough business conditions throughout the
province.
PROCUREMENT:

The procurement order was made for

50 Helmets in total

However, the suppliers were able to procure 30 of them due to the lockdown
restrictions

Although the order got delayed we received it after a week. The quality check was done
and the payment was made. The helmets procured included Branded Honda Helmets in
Black Color and Striped Helmets to ensure the homogeneity of our products and easy
branding.
Here we go back at it after a week. Procuring our order, checking the quality, all
good and ready to go

MARKETING:

Now it was time to market the procured product, so we first created a promotional video
to spread the word about our current project and aware people about road safety. We’ll be
honest it wasn’t easy by any means, since we never participated in a promotional video
ourselves it took us 4 long hours to make a 1.5-minute promotional message for the
audience. Plus, the burden of Acting, directing, shooting and producing the video
ourselves was a thing on its own.

Few Snap Shots of the Promo making.

BRANDING:

So to prepare our own logo we first digitally created a prototype about the kind of
branding we want on the road safety equipment, mentioning our project and
university name. We printed about 100 stickers and applied them on the
equipment we procured. This is how it looks like
Distribution & Sale:
Now that we have the required products it was time to go on our distribution drive and
put the products on sale as well.
• Half of the Helmets were portioned to be distributed in the name of spreading
awareness and
• The other half was kept for Sale on our website to our friends and family as well
people who wanted to acquire one for their safety.

The distribution was done specifically in places where the roads are fast paced and have
dangerous sharp turns on them.
We started by identifying people traveling without proper safety gear such as not wearing
helmets. And we stopped them and asked them the reasons behind not wearing the
helmets.
At first people were having a mixed feeling of shock and annoyance as to the nature of
our questions but after we explained them our project consists of ensuring road safety
They complied happily and were even willing to give separate interviews.
After questioning them as to why they do not wear safety gear probable causes were
something along the lines of,
1- They were not aware of the intricacies of safety gear
2- Nobody around them wore it
3- They felt suffocated while driving with a helmet
4- Helmet as well as other accessories irritated them like weirdly fitting gloves
5- Their accessories kept getting stolen so they abandoned ever purchasing a new one

After listening to their reasons some felt like mere excuses while others were genuine.
However regardless of their reasons we advised them that it might be hard or annoying to
wear one but in the end these accessories and the rules of the road are made for a reason
and that reason is to keep them safe.
We gave them our branded Helmets to thank them for their time and
advised them on few of the road safety rules and told them to spread the awareness that a
helmet may be costly but their lives are much more valuable. After a few words of
encouragement and advice we sent them on their way.
Few memories of our distribution:
Sale of Helmets:
The selling of our product is being done by selling our helmets on our website and in our
circle consisting of our colleagues, friends and family who are able willing and can afford
the products.
Sustainability:
Our project is sustained by the funds available to us from the Non- Governmental Organization
collaborating with us i.e. Transport & Road Safety Foundation

Cost:
Per Piece Helmet we were able to reach a negotiated cost of Rs 450
And for the lot of 50 Helmets ordered we paid the price of Rs 22,500
Out of which 7,500 were collectively invested by our group members as well as volunteers
And the remaining amount of 15,000 was covered by courtesy of TRSF

Sale:
The 15 helmets of the procured lot are to be sold at a price of Rs. 550 + 100 rupees’ delivery
charges making the total cost to customer of a helmet being Rs 650
The expected revenue earned from the sale of these helmets will be Rs. 9,750 making our
resultant profit of this sale being of Rs. 2,250 which is a 10% profit out of our invested
funds thereby solidly sustaining our project.
Delivery System:
The delivery is currently being done locally in Karachi only through the use of our volunteers as
well as our members. However, we aim to get into agreement with a courier service in order to
lower our delivery charges and making our products more attractive to our customers.
