WOMEN’S EDUCATION:-

HISTORICAL REVIEW:-
In ancient days women education was encouraged. Hence we have to mention number of
learned women in the Vedic & upanisha period. They were versed in various disciplines
of studies,as were men. But during the muslim period in india situation was changed. But
by middle of the 19th century some progressive Indians & Englishmen started working for
their reawake ing. This encouraged the development of their education. According to the
recommendation of the education commission of 1882 some schools for women were
opened with Government grant. As a result some private enterprises also came forward &
opened many schools colleges for girls. According to the recommendations of the
education commission 1882 some school for women were opened with Government
grant.Later on gradually many new schools & colleges for girls were opened & a number
of stipend for girls were instituted as encouragement.
After independence the Government considered its sacred duly to to expand women
education& many voluntary organization also forward to work for expansion of the same
in various five year plans separate funds have been allotted for women education

AIMS:-
Through India has produced great women in different walks of life like
science,literature,various disciplines of studies in the universities & in the political life of
the country .Still we have to make effortsfor expansion of women education.various
committees & commission on education appointed by the Government have emphasized

 The unique need & nature of women education


 We have still to overcome many conservative soial traditions in order to bring to
the women folk n the group of intelligentia.
It is necessary to emphasize the special needs & interest of women in their educational
programme. We have to introduce changes in the curriculum which may be
corresponding to the special aptitude, interest ,life duties of the women.Suitable
recommendation have been made by the various commission in education for reforms of
women education

THE GOVERNMENT & WOMEN EDUCATION;-


The central Govt. has been responsible for women education constitutionally. State Govt
that does everything forexpansion of women education. In1959 the national council for
women education was established for looking after the educationof girls.
This council has recommened that the women education should be treated as a separate
unit of education & the State governments should be treated as a separate unit of education
& the state Government should establish advisory council for women education & there
should be a joint director for women education

HIGHER EDUCATION FOR WOMEN:-


Some necessary changes are also being introduced in the curriculum in order to suit there
special interests & aptitudes. The girls are also attracted towards various professional
courses, such as medical,engineering & nursing etc. So special facilities should be
provided to them in these area.

SECONDARY EDUCATION FOR GIRLS :-


At this stage growth of women education has been more satisfactory. As the time passed
the old conservative tradition are likely tobe relaxed & the girls will be encouraged to get
that education which they desire. The curriculum has also been suitably modified at the
secondary stage in order to suit their special requirements.

PRIMARY EDUCATION FOR GIRLS :-


development of It is the base for the secondary & higher education. So its development
will ultimately affect the development of onward stage of education. It has been
estimated that only 30% of the girls of primary school reach the V class i.e. they dropout
earlier for one reason or the other. The Government has a special responsibilities for
enforcing compulsory education for girls upto the secondary stage.

VOCATIONAL, SPECIAL &ADULT EDUCATION FOR WOMEN:-


Women are showing an interest for professional education.It is generally seen that girls
Show special inclination towards teaching profession,after this their choices falls on
nursing & medical profession. Special provision have to be made for attracting them to
the profession of their choice. Recently it has also been observed that the women are
showing inclination for social services.We need various types of social workerfor our
rural areas.Trained women may be encouraged to take up assignments in rural areas
to promote the development of village.

MAIN PROBLEMS OF WOMEN EDUCATION :-


Though our Indian women are as capable as any women in any part of the world are
denied equal oppertunitiesfor working with men in many spheres of life.
Constitutionally our Indian women have been granted equal right with men. But
practically they are not enjoying them like men because men dominant in our country.
Curriculum should be modified by taking care of their unique life responsibilities &
domestic demand. Coeducation upto the primary stage should be the permitted. But for the
secondary education separate school should be opened in various parts of the country.
Girls are showing special inerest & aptitudes for professional education. They need special
facilities & encouragement in this area.Various professional courses women should be
specially trained women. Reservation of more seats in favour of girls is provided to
facilitate the growth of women education in various areas.If trained women workers or
lady doctors & teachers are send to work in rural areas, they should be given higher
salaries & immediate facilities of residence & other minimum amenities for obvious
reasons

ADULT EDUCATION & SOCIAL EDUCATION :-


Adult education is an important branch of the total national educational system. The
literacy to those who have been unfortunate to get any schooling during their childhood
can be provided education through adult education programmes. In adult education
programmesthe most widely used device was to arrange for of the work time classes for
the illiterate.It has been observed that if the adult are properly motivated,they willingly
offer themselves for such education.

AIM OF SOCIAL EDUCATION :-


 Strengthening social harmony &solidarity among the people , social harmony ,
social solidarityare themselves things of value, but they are also geared to the
achievement of large national ends.
 To awaken in the people an appreciation of the significance of the country’s 5 year
plans & to enthuse them for paeticipation in it.
 To bring to the people the benefit of new knowledge.
 To raise the level of Indian humanity.
 To improve the quality of leadership.

OBJECTIVES OF SOCIAL EDUCATION :-


 Remedial—increase the indisual’s original or innate talent.
 Vocational – isto impart commercial & industrial knowledge, agriculture &
domestic activities.
 Health
 Social skill
 Recreational
 Self development
