Examen final de mecánica de fluidos 2021-2

Nombre: _____________________________________ Código: ________________

This examination must be carried out strictly by one person. Any attempt of fraud will be studied and
treated based on the student regulations. It is forbidden the use of phones, programmable calculator
and/or other technological devices. For this examination, you can only have a pen, pencil, eraser
and pen corrector. Please remember that no claims will be accepted if the examination was carried
out in pencil. All the results must include the right mathematical procedure, including those which
may be written in separated tables. Any individual result without the right procedure will not be
scored.

You are required to answer all the question in an orderly manner, which means answering the
question step-by step based on the problem statement. Once the examination has been started, you
will not be able to leave the classroom while the test is still in progress.

Procedure and result carry 40% and 60% of the total mark respectively.
You will be penalized for every error in units with -4.0 points.

By signing this stamen of Acceptance, you acknowledge that have read and understood the rules
mentioned above:

Examen final de mecánica de fluidos 2021-2

1. A 4.4196 1.05156-m block with at mass of (6,45lbm + ____)/12 under atmospheric

conditions, is to be moved with a horizontal force (F= 97,9847lb+____) above a
0.00478536-m tick mercury oil with a kinematic viscosity 3.8173 ∗ 10−7 m2 ⁄s and
specific weight of 847 lb⁄ft 3 + ____. (a) Determine the velocity upon which the block is
moved above the mercury film. (b) Determine the new velocity to move the block if
the mercury film have been changed by water with the same film thickness of
0.00478536-m and the force applied is the same. For water, assume a dynamic
viscosity of 1.038 ∗ 10−3 (lbm)⁄(ft ∗ s). What is the percentage of velocity
decreasing/increasing? Express all your results in English units. [40 points]

(6,45lbm + ____)/12

2. ‘Find the flow rate in terms of the diameter of the small pipe for the given 0.2 m
difference in the manometer level. [30 marks]

Note: Explain your assumptions and results. The no explanation of assumptions will
be penalized with -5 points.

3. The diameters in the figure below are 42 in and 30 in. At the larger end the pressure
is 90 psi and the velocity is 12 fps. Neglecting friction, find the resultant force on the
horizontal conical reducer if water flows (a) to the right; and (b) to the left. (c) What
would happen to the two previous answers If we did not neglect fiction? [30 points]
