What did you learn from Understanding the Self?

I’ve learned that having a clear understanding of one’s thought and behavioral patterns helps you
understand other people. This ability to empathize facilitates better personal and professional
relationships. To know yourself is your first priority! How can you realistically set goals, go about life and
have successful relationships if you don't know who you are or what you want? You really can't. We
tend to underestimate the importance of knowing ourselves. Many of us go through each day reacting
to events and just getting by rather than making conscious choices based on who we are and what we
want. When we do not know where we are headed for and it's hard to set goals, get motivated and
determine the best course of action. Before we can do any of these things we must establish who we
are and this subject Understanding the self, I have learned a lot more on knowing myself to be aware
of my strengths, weaknesses, likes and dislikes, Observe and be aware of my moods, reactions and
responses to what is happening around me. Becoming aware of how these moods and emotions affect
my state of mind, Examine how can I interact with other and be observance on how my environment

How this subject helps you to have a deeper understanding of what it means to be humans?
Answer: This subject helps me a lot to have a deeper understanding of what it means to be human,
humans are often compared and contrasted with animals and machines. Some of these specific qualities
are the ability to interpret, free will, and the use of language, but what does it really mean to be human?
Humans unlike any other creature can describe an exciting experience, or tell a scary story. Through
speech we can say, "I don't know," which is the first step to gaining understanding and knowledge.
Humans are more than just mere creatures of nature because of the art of remembering, recalling, and
through language either written or spoken. People's identity is formed through their moral behavior
and conscience, thus making us human.

Does the subject relevant to your daily living?

Answer: Yes, this subject is very relevant in my daily living, knowing myself means respecting
(but not attaching to) my strengths and weaknesses, my passions and fears, my desires and dreams, my
thoughts and feelings, my likes and dislikes, my tolerances and limitations.

Final Message and comment about the subject

Answer: My final message and comment to this subject is that I find it as an interesting subject
that can help the individual know thyself and that many of us operate on the belief that we must appear
as though we know everything all the time or else people will question our abilities, and then perhaps
judge us. If you are honest with yourself, you admit that the opposite is really true, whether you
acknowledge your weaknesses or not, everyone still sees them. So rather than conceal them, the person
who tries to hide their weaknesses is actually highlights them, creating the perception of lack, of
integrity, and self-awareness.
