Working Title of Proposed A Correlational Analysis Study on the Dominance Index of Local Bat Species
Project (Chiroptera) as Biological Indicators of Global Warming Impact in the Philippines in
terms of Climatological Factors
Brief Overview of the Topic From ecological perspectives to human health implications, climatological changes
pose a significant impact towards the environment and our well-being. Bioindicators
are species that help in determining the current indication of global warming. With
the help of bioindicator species, we can assess different measures of intervention
in preserving the environment and manage global warming. This strengthens the
necessity to analyze the current climatological variables in the Philippines from the
existing bioindicators. This project will mostly tackle the effectiveness of the local
bat species (Chiroptera) as an existing bioindicator in assessing global warming
changes in correlation to the climatological elements in the Philippines.
Research Objectives This study aims to utilize the local bat species (Chiroptera) as a bioindicator for
global warming and its correlation to the climatological changes in the Philippines
in terms of rainfall amount, maximum and minimum temperature, mean
temperature, wind speed, and relative humidity. Furthermore, it will assess the
effectiveness of Chiroptera as an existing bioindicator in assessing climate changes.
Brief Description of This study uses a correlational research design to determine the relationship
Methods between Chiroptera and the trend of climatological factors in the Philippines.
Parameter values will be collected from two government agencies. For Chiroptera,
the statistical data that will be collected are population, species-type, threat status,
occurrence status, habitats, and main altitudinal range. This data will be acquired
through Bureau of Animal Industry’s electronic Freedom of Information. Moreover,
climatological factors are categorized into six (6) groups, namely, rainfall amount,
maximum temperature, minimum temperature, wind speed, wind direction, and
relative humidity. The climate data from 2012 to 2021 will be obtained through
PAGASA’s form of request. These data will be used in analyzing their correlation to
identify possible benefits in the fields of science and society. The data that will be
obtained are verified from credible agencies and are, therefore, valid, and reliable.
What statistical methods For the presentation of data, the tabulation of results and use of figures and graphs
do you intend to use? will be employed. As for the analysis and interpretation of values, both descriptive
and inferential statistical methods will be utilized. For descriptive statistics,
measures of central tendency (mean, median, and mode) and measures of
dispersion (variance and standard deviation) will be applied to provide basic
information and emphasize on potential relationships between the two variables.
For inferential statistics, Pearson r correlation coefficient and standard multiple
linear regression analysis will be applied to measure the relationship of the variables
in determining whether there is a positive, negative, or no correlation at all and to
examine how climatological factors can affect the dominance index of the
Chiroptera species respectively. In addition, diagnostic metrics (sensitivity and
specificity) will also be implemented to measure the frequency of a test in
generating a positive or negative result (true positive and true negative).
Furthermore, these methods will solidify the results in gauging the current condition
of global warming based on the specified bioindicator (Chiroptera species).
Schedule preferably in the
form of a Gannt Chart.
