Matter Unit Assessment Reflection

Based on the students’ scores on the states of matter assessment, 16 out of 20 students demonstrated mastery of the
content. These students scored at least a 93% on the assessment. Three students scored at least an 86% demonstrating a
proficient understanding of the content. The lowest score was an 82%, still, this student demonstrated a strong
understanding.
After reviewing the item analysis of this assessment, I recognized that questions 13 and 14 showed the most difficulty.
Question 13 asked the students to name the 5-senses, while question 14 asked the students to describe the physical
properties of an object (a red ribbon held up and walked around to each student by the teacher). Next time, I will spend more
time discussing and practicing both topics. I might also make the questions multiple choice rather than short answers.
Overall, the class showed a very strong understanding of the states of matter unit.
