Subject:       Pivot3  Policy  on  applying  Patches  and  Upgrades  to  VMware  ESXi  
 
Affected  Products  
This  policy  applies  to  all  vSTAC  Watch,  vSTAC  VDI  &  P-­‐Cubed,  vSTAC  Big  Data,  and  vSTAC  Edge  
appliances.  
 
Policy  
As  VMware’s  ESXi  hypervisor  is  continually  being  improved,  there  are  more  patches  made  than  can  
reasonably  be  tested  on  an  individual  basis  by  Pivot3.    It  is  incumbent  to  Pivot3  to  assume  that  ESXi  
patches  and  updates  have  already  undergone  extensive  testing  in  order  to  be  released  into  
production.    To  address  the  evolutionary  nature  of  software  releases,  Pivot3  has  put  this  policy  in  
place  regarding  support  of  ESXi  releases.  
 
As  Pivot3  releases  updated  vSTAC  OS  releases,  ESXi  patches  and  updates  available  at  that  time  will  
typically  be  included  as  part  of  the  software  qualification  process.    As  of  the  date  of  this  document,  
this  is  the  current  status  of  the  vSTAC  OS  release  families:  
 
Pivot3   VMware  
vSTAC  OS  5.x   ESXi  5.0  Update  1  
vSTAC  OS  6.x   ESXi  5.1  Update  1    
 
 
VMware  Patch  Application:    Pivot3  supports  the  application  of  ESXi  Patches  up  to  the  level  of  the  
currently  released  vSTAC  OS  for  the  specific  vSTAC  product  version.  
 
VMware  Update  Application:    Pivot3  supports  the  application  of  ESXi  Updates  to  the  level  of  the  
currently  released  vSTAC  OS  for  the  specific  vSTAC  product  version.  
 
Patching  or  updating  ESXi  past  the  level  of  currently  released  vSTAC  OS  versions  will  be  considered  as  
strictly  a  use  at  your  own  risk  scenario.
