Making a histogram of particle size distribution in SEM/TEM/STEM images

1. Install Nanomeasure
2. Switch to the language to “English”, then you will see the following interface

3. Click “File”, and then you can open one image (in .jpg or .bmp format).
For example, an STEM image of Au/TiO2 sample is imported into the program.

4. Calibrate the scale bar. This “Nanomeasure” program is actually an program to measure the
length of the target. So you need to tell it the scale bar.
As you can see in this picture, draw a straight red line and click “Set”, input the length of the scale
bar “20 nm”.

5. After setting the scale bar, you can start to measure the particle size in your sample. It is very
easy to do it. Just use left click to draw a straight line on the particle, one by one, as you can
see in the following picture.
After measuring enough amount of particles, you can export the data by click “Report”, and
choose “View reports”.

Then you can choose “Output all reports as .txt” to export all the size of the particles into a .txt
file.

6. After obtaining the .txt file, you can import those results into Excel or Origin and make a
statistic analysis on the size distribution in your sample.
