1. From the network to the spectrum a SDN-based
decision-making system for H-CRAN
Overview: The thesis proposes the deployment of a
decision-making algorithm on a centralized SDWN Controller
based on optimization problems to cope three issues:

● Interference control with resource sharing

● Maximum feasible distance between network elements
under delay constraints
● Processing power underusage

over an environment that applies Heterogeneous Networking

and Cloud Radio Access Network.
1. From the network to the spectrum a SDN-based
decision-making system for H-CRAN
Remarkable Points

● There is a placement problem involving delay constraints

and RRH distribution
● The approach is divided in levels:
○ Spectrum level: Time, Space, Frequency, Power and Code
○ Infrastructure level: Cell => RRH => MDC => Operator
○ Network level
● Identified Gaps
○ Resources must be shared: spectrum and infrastructure sharing to
achieve high spectrum efficiency
○ Characterization and mitigation of delay causing factors
○ Dynamic/real time/on the fly H-CRAN assignment problem solution

● 4G LTE Lacks
○ Transmission rate enough to support user centric applications
■ 2x2 MIMO 150 Mbps only supports 4 full HD video transmissions
○ An LTE eNodeB has capacity to attend around 600 “always” connected
devices
■ Massive Machine Communications (M2M and IoT umbrella) demands thousands of
devices
○ Physical layers is near shannon limit
■ Despite the
