HOSE CLAMP GUIDELINES

The following document applies to hose clamps that may be allowed or disallowed at Formula Bharat
2019. These guidelines are mandatory for only the fuel system. They are recommendations for the
cooling system; it would help if a team uses these, else it is up to the judgement of the technical
inspectors.

All hose clamps on the vehicle need to have 3 important features -

1. A full 360 deg. wrap
2. A nut and bolt system for tightening
3. Rolled edges to prevent the clamp from cutting into the hose

The table below shows the types of clamps that will be allowed / disallowed at Technical Inspection.

Rules for installation -

1. A hose clamp should never be used on a steel braided hose.
2. If hose clamp is being used on rubber fuel / radiator lines, then the components over which
the hose is clamped must have either of the following -

a. Barbed Fittings like (similar OEM components are okay)

b. Annular ring / beaded ends like or

3. While tightening a hose clamp, it needs to be over the annular ring or beaded end. It
shouldn’t be over torqued such that the rubber on each side of the clamp is higher than the
clamp surface. Anything similar to the image below will not clear TI.

4. Choose the correctly sized clip to ensure a 360 degree wrap.
