3) Offensive transition, exploring the speed of the wingers – 10 min

This is progression of the previous drill, where the reds and the blue
players switch sides. We also include a striker (ST) in the middle to the
transition. The transition pass will be performed by the reds and they will
have one more passing option to the ST. After the ball enters the space
in the back of the defense, 2 blue players can defend the goal and so we
create a situation of 3x2

Coaching points

Offensively – To work on the role of the ST on offensive transitions: to act

as frontal support when the pass is directed to him or to contribute to the
occupation of the 3 game corridors.

men on the restricted area (CD’s + DM) to work on the 1st stage of the
build-up play. The red team can explore the space in the back and create Coaching points
a situation of 3x2.
Offensively – To explore the wideness of the CD’s in the 1st stage of
build-up play, the depth of the full-back’s (FB). At the same time the
wingers appear in the central corridor to create internal passing lines and
to get free space to the FB’s. To work on the above mentioned issues on
offensive transitions.

Defensively – To work on zonal defending: fast action of the player near

the ball to reduce space and time of execution to the ball carrier;
successive defensive cover actions to reduce the space between lines; to
adapt constantly to the ball position, keeping the defensive organization.
To pressure in a high-block: conditioning of the ball carrier, make
difficult the pass to the back of the last defensive line; to work on
defensive recovery, as a mean to gain ball possession.

Load: 4x4min. Before the beginning of each repetition, the team which
plays like the team in blue, work on free-kicks and corners. The goals
scored will be the starting result in each match
