Name: Mecca Johnson

Type of project, piece, or selection: Writing Autobiography

Class for which this assignment was done: Dramatic Writing

Purpose of Assignment (3-5 sentences): For this assignment, we had to write about literature classes we’ve
taken in the past and our experience with writing as a whole. We wrote about how we felt about writing in a
class setting and how we enjoyed writing on our own. I enjoyed this assignment because it helped me gain a
better understanding of my connection to writing.

New things I learned from this assignment are (3-5 sentences): I learned how much I enjoy writing on my
terms it’s an outlet for me. I also learned how easy it is for me to write about stuff I truly enjoy like creative
writing. I also learned that while writing is fun and something I enjoy I need to learn how to stop. With this
assignment I found myself going on and on.

Challenges (3-5 sentences): This assignment was challenging because I haven’t had the best experience in
writing classes after 9th grade. Even before then I struggled with this subject because being told what to write
and how to write I feel constricts me. It stops me from being creative and that is something I don’t enjoy.

Type of project, piece, or selection: Word Photos

Class for which this assignment was done: Dramatic Writing

Purpose of Assignment (3-5 sentences): For this assignment, we had to create three short stories with
memories from our childhood. These stories had to be very descriptive and ‘paint a picture’ hence the title of
the assignment. We weren’t just telling the story we had to tell it from a different perspective and use lots of
imagery.
New things I learned from this assignment are (3-5 sentences): I learned that writing about myself from a
perspective that is not my own helped me truly understand my feelings about this memory. So with that, it was
way easier to use lots of imagery and paint this picture. The more I understood what was happening and saw it
happening from another point of view helped I ‘color’ it more.

Challenges (3-5 sentences): I struggled with the imagery of this assignment. When we first got what the
assignment was I was very confused about how we were supposed to write it. But using the examples we were
given helped me a lot as well as stepping outside of my POV and writing it from another as I stated above.

Type of project, piece, or selection: Character Bios

Class for which this assignment was done: Dramatic Writing

Purpose of Assignment (3-5 sentences): For this assignment, we had to analyze 4 different characters. 2 who
already existed in a tv show or film, and two who we made up. We had to do basic information about them as
well as likes, dislikes, and personality traits. Make a detailed synopsis of these characters.

New things I learned from this assignment are (3-5 sentences): i learned that you can still plagiarize
characters that already exist. I also learned how to separate myself from my personal opinions on these charters
that I love and write about them from a fact-based perspective. Doing this assignment helped me tap into my
imagination while creating characters of my own. That isn’t something I do without having a full story already
planned in my head.

Challenges (3-5 sentences): I struggled with forming my characters for this assignment. MAking up a name
of a charter is easy but coming up with their whole life story, personality traits, and more was very challenging
for me. It seems like it would be easy cuz it could be anything you wanted it to be but I got stuck because I
didn’t want my characters to be stupid.

Type of project, piece, or selection: Blood Don’t Lie

Class for which this assignment was done: Dramatic Writing

Purpose of Assignment (3-5 sentences): For this project, we could either work alone or in a group. I worked
in a group and we were instructed to choose from a packet and make something that reflected an individual
character from the ‘blood don’t lie’ book we had recently read. My group chose visual art so each one of us
made a drawing that we thought best reflected the element of our charter’s lives.

New things I learned from this assignment are (3-5 sentences): For my visual art I drew a piece called
‘plenty of fish’ it showed the main character of the book, Larry, like a fish all alone. From this, I learned that I
am not a great artist. I also learned that the element of his love life in the book was one of the most important
even though it was only in the boo for a couple of chapters, it showed his loneliness well.

Challenges (3-5 sentences): I struggled to find things to draw about. While I knew I was tackling his love life
the ‘plenty of fish’ idea didn’t come to me right away. I also struggled with my drawing because I’m not an
artist and cant draw that well so I was nervous that the picture wouldn’t make sense.

Type of project, piece, or selection: Television Beat Sheet

Class for which this assignment was done: Dramatic Writing

Purpose of Assignment (3-5 sentences): For this assignment, we watched an episode of Moesha. We had to
go through and identify the different beat changes, and what caused them, and how they were resolved. We
also did the same thing for an episode of the good place.

New things I learned from this assignment are (3-5 sentences): I learned that while both shows we watched
were comedic they had pretty big contrasting shifts in them. The beat changes and conflicts of these shows
were really easy to identify because they were such drastic shifts from the comedic nature of the rest of the
show. So this helped me complete this assignment

Challenges (3-5 sentences): I struggled with not getting too caught up in the show that I missed the plotlines. I
was very entertained by what we were watching that I was scared I wasn’t doing the assignment right. I
thought I wasn’t figuring out the right things to write down.
