-Cells of the same type group together to form tissues

-The same sort of tissues then form organs

-Organs then form organ systems

-System: a group of inter-related parts that work together to achieve a

common goal (interrelated: related, but not identical, like a family)

Nervous System!

-Made of special cells found ONLY in the nervous system - neurons

-Has 2 parts: Central Nervous System (brain & spinal cord), and Periphera
Nervous System (all the nerves that extend out from the spinal cord)

-Is the system that allows animals to sense things, react, and behave.

-2 Types of neurons: Afferent & Efferent (think cause & effect:

Afferent neurons are the input signal - (ex. afferent senses the stove is hot;
brain says "THIS IS HOT! MOVE DUMB@$$!"; efferent neuron carries that message
to the muscles, to your move)

Somatic Nervous System

The voluntary part of the nervous Autonomic Nervous System
system - requires thought from the All the stuff your body does
brain (Walking, writing, lifting a without thinking: breathing,
glass of water) heart pumping; reacting to
danger (reflexes)

Sympathetic Division Parasympathetic Division

STRESS - keeps you alive, Opposite of sympathetic -
redirects blood flow to your Tries to slow your heart rate
lungs and muscles, so you can and breathing, allows blood
run away from saber tooth tigers to flow to your junk, allows
you to poop and pee

Homeostasis: Balance; idealy the sympathetic (stress) and

parasympathetic (chill out) divisions balance each other out,
so we aren't always stressed out, or, way too chill to respond
to danger.
