MCT/MST Lesson Observation Template

The MCT and MST will use this form to observe the trainee’s performance formally and to give
feedback based on each teaching competency

Course Code: 4409

Trainee Name: Mohrah Majed AlKhateri School: Al Nakheel KG

MCT/MST Name: Fareeda Salah Al-junaibi Date: Nov 1st, 2021

Professional Dispositions:
Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and compliance with education regulations.
Comments:

The trainee is committed to the UAE heritage and cultural values and represents them in every
lesson. The trainee ensures that cultural congruity is deeply embedded in her teaching practice
and the cultural inclusiveness is clear in the trainee’s lessons. The trainee follows the Emirates
Schools Establishment (ESE) requirements and complies totally with the Establishment’s
regulations.

Planning for Teaching and Learning:

Implement integrated plans with clear scope and sequence.

Comments:

The trainee’s lesson plan follows prescribed curriculum of Emirates Schools Establishment (ESE)
with integration of science, math, and language arts in one lesson. The lesson plan includes
activities chosen according to students’ levels. The trainee needs to approach the primary teacher
for any clarification to avoid misunderstanding of any outcome. There is a need to focus on the 21
century skills and work on well planned and elaborated activities pertaining to these skills in
particular in the trainee’s instruction.

Managing Teaching and Learning:

Prioritize emotional safety through developing and maintaining positive relationships with
all stakeholders.
Comments:

The trainee reviews the classroom rules every lesson which persuades the students to stay toned
and reduces the noisiness. The trainee is friendly and kind with the students and manages a
smooth running of the lesson, despite the hard time created by some students.

The trainee uses effective examples and illustrations in the PPT, but probably needs to enlarge the
font size in her presentations to enable students to see clearly from distance. The learning
environment is somehow motivating, safe and sound and students are responding enthusiastically
sometimes. The trainee also plans activities in accordance with the different needs and abilities of
the students, but needs to raise the level of challenge in the activities. The trainee coordinates the
learning content with the instructional objectives, however, she ought to cover the outcomes
coherently.

The trainee collaborates and communicates professionally with stakeholders to support learning
in the school in general.

Implementing Learning:
Validate effective strategies to engage and motivate young learners.
Comments:

The delivery and planning of the trainee’s lesson needs further development in order to ensure
engagement and motivation of all the students because they are easily distracted. Playing the
morning song with stretching movements at the beginning of the lesson was a good start to grab
attention of the students. The activities implemented in class encourage students’ independence
but lacks creativity and high levels of achievement. The progress of the students is not well
enough; however, it can be enhanced by carefully selecting more appropriate and hands-on
activities. The good thing is that the trainee relates the lesson to the previous experiences learnt
each time.

Assessing Learning:
Develop questioning techniques appropriate for learning in the Early Childhood context.
Comments:

By now it is promising that the trainee embeds critical question in every lesson which is essential in
developing the 21 century skills. The trainee asks the students what were we singing to bring their
attention to the outcome addressed in the lesson (order days of the week). However, she needs
to practice asking questions from different levels of bloom’s taxonomy in one lesson in order to
promote advanced thinking. The trainee uses appropriate language level to the students. She can
paraphrase the question if students could not understand it and simplifies it.

Reflection:
Generate reflection on learning resources, physical environment, and sociocultural
contexts.
Comments:

The resources that the teacher prepared for the lesson served the type of activities and the
objectives to be achieved to an extent. Mainly worksheets, journals and writing materials are used
in the centers. It is recommended to use educational games created by the teacher herself to
achieve the objectives of the lesson. There were six main stations; in one station the students
match the number of fruits eaten by the caterpillar with the specific day of the week. In another
station students order the parts of the plants from top to bottom. In the third station students
writes the letter of the week in their journal and there is the teacher’s small group.
There is also Math station where children represent numbers in ten frames, although the outcome
was to represent numbers in different ways including drawing, tally, number line, ten frames, dots,
and by hands, the trainee introduced only the ten frames, leaving the other ways of representing
numbers maybe to another lesson which was unclear to the primary teacher. The last station was
the Arts center where students making flowers using paper plates and colored papers.

Action Plan:
In general, the lesson was good and the teacher presents the learning content in a logical sequential
order.

The trainee needs to understand some outcomes in depth in order to deliver them in an effective
way such as in teaching the Math objective (representing numbers in different ways). What I saw in
class was representing numbers in ten-frame only. There should be coherent in teaching the
outcomes.

Also, the trainee can set high expectations for students’ achievements, and upgrades the
performance level of the students through her instruction in each lesson and work more on
developing the 21st century learning skills.
