RESEARCHCLASSACTIVITY

1. Research problem

• Bacterial Etiology of Bloodstream Infections and

Antimicrobial Resistance Patterns from a Tertiary

Care Hospital in Male´, Maldives

2. Objectives of the study

• To identify the bacteria causing bloodstream

infection.

• To aim an analysis of the blood culture samples

in Maldives.

3. Significance of the study

• Bloodstream infections pose a significant health

problem worldwide and is a major cause of

morbidity and mortality in many countries. It is

important to have country-specific data for major

pathogens causing bloodstream infections, in

light of emerging resistance patterns of common

bacterial isolates

• provides a baseline insight into the bacterial

etiology of bloodstream infections both in

pediatric and adult populations

and

193 were females

8. Method of data collection

• retrospective analysis of blood culture samples

independent samples t-test, and frequency

distributions
