General information

UNICEF is actually an abbreviation for United Nations International Childrens Emergency Fund.
UNICEF was found on the 11th of December 1946, and was meant to be a temporary organization. It
became a permanent part of the United Nations in 1953. The United Nations is an
intergouvernmental organisation which was found in 1945 right after the war, it’s task is to maintain
the peace between the countries and develop friendly relations between them. There are 193
countries who are part of the United Nations. UNICEF was actually set up by a man named Ludwik
Rajchman. He was a Polish physician and bacteriologist. He died on the 13th of July 1965.

UNICEF is a part of the United Nations which is created specially for children. They help kids in the
countries who are part of the United Nations and they fight for childrens rights.

What do they do?

After the member states of the united nations signed the treaty of the Childrens rights in November
1989, it’s UNICEF’s task to check wether the meber state adheres to the treaty.

UNICEF helps children in need. They, for example, provide children with good healthcare when
needed and with an education. A lot of children in third world countries don’t have the opportunity
to go to school like us. UNICEF tries to provide children with the things they need to get a better
future which they may not have been given by birth. Also clean drinking water and food are things
where UNICEF focusses on.

In the Netherlands UNICEF doesn’t really have to provide things for the children. In our country they
mostly check the government if they do enough for the children. Also UNICEF Netherlands collects
money in all sorts of ways to fund actions in other countries. They go to schools to tell the children in
The Netherlands what their organisation actually does and that we are very fortunate with where we
were born.

Right now they’re most active in the Middle-East, a lot of help is needed overthere right now because
of the war thats going on.
Children in need

As I explained UNICEF helps children get a better life. Because, mostly in third world countries, the
living conditions aren’t really good. In these countries the children don’t have exces to school, clean
drinking water, food and health care. This is a big problem for their health and their future. They
don’t get really old because they get sick at a young age, they don’t have a good immune system
because they don’t have clean water or good foofd. And when they get sick they can’t get any
medical help because it’s too expensive or there aren’t enoigh people with a good education. UNICEF
tries to help the children in these countries to give them the same oppurtunities as we get in the
centre of the world. Places where war is going on, help is needed, and UNICEF tries to provide for the
children who lost their homes, their family or got injured. This is the main reason why UNICEF is most
active in the Middle East, because of IS and the war.

Achievements

UNICEF helps children all over the world, and they have been doing that for a very long time already.
They have achieved a lot of things. This are some of their biggest achievements:

 Because of their volunteer work the infant mortality rate has halfed since 1990
 90% of the children all over the world is signed up at a school
 83% of all the children is vaccinated against childhood illness

How can we help?

We can help UNICEF and all children in the world by donating money to the organisation. From that
money they buy goods they need for there actions. You can collect money by setting up an action.
They don’t really appreciate it when you sent goods because they buy their goods of the money you
donate. They buy those goods mostly in the countries where the help is needed, so they can support
the local economy too. So if you really want to help you should donate money.

conclusion

UNICEF is an organisation which helps children in need, all over the world. The organisation is part of
the United Nations, and was found in 1946 by Ludwik Rajchamn. They are most active in the world in
the Middle East, and they can really use our help. We can help UNICEF by donating money so they
can provide for goods for the children.
