Combining Art and Literature Project

(Summative Assessment)

Over the course of the semester, we have looked at art and

literature through the historical and contemporary ways they’ve

been combined, as well as how the two mediums are fully

blended together in graphic novels. Now comes the opportunity

for you all to really try on what we’ve learned the past month.

Your objective is to create a product that combines both art

and literature together in a meaningful way, but outside of this

there are no limits to your creativity. You could create a short

graphic novel, a painting with an accompanying short story, a

study that shows the progress of art and literature throughout

history, etc. All rules are off when it comes to what you create.

While there is a rubric (see below) to help guide you all to

getting the grades you want, your work will also be

accompanied with a 1 page reflection where you discuss the

creative process and offer reasons as to why you’re deserving of

a quality grade on this assignment. Just because there is a lack

of rules does not mean this is an easy A, but if you work hard

and can justify a quality grade then you are all more than
capable of getting one. Be sure to root your work in one of the

aspects that was a part of our course as to show your learning

from this semester, and let your creativity and passion for these

two forms drive whatever you may create. If you feel more

comfortable with either of the two forms, you are more than

welcome to focus more on that aspect, but you must create a

multimedia project where you design both a piece of writing and

a visual that go hand in hand with one another.
