3. COURSE DESCRIPTION
ENG100 WRITING CLASSROOM is a tailored course designed for the second year students of
the Advanced program, the National Economics University (NEU). Its purpose is to develop the
students’ understanding of how the theoretical aspects of conducting a research and writing a
report can be applied to a practical project. Business – related topics are encouraged (but not
compulsory) to help students apply their learnt knowledge in a business project. As an
undergraduate module, the breadth and depth of business analysis undertaken is expected to be
modest.

9. COURSE REQUIREMENT & EXPECTATION

Assignment and Exam
There are online study and group presentation registering 20% of the total mark for each and 01
final report assignment. The final assignment accounts for 50% of the total grade. Students have
permission to take the group presentation and the final assignment when they attend more than
80% of the total classes and hand in group assignment on time. Make-up exams will not be
offered. The following rules apply to group presentation and final assignment:
1. Make a notation of the exam dates.
2. Final Exam is a written assignment which requires students to understand research
structure and all the main parts of research that are taught during 15 weeks.
3. If students do not appear in Group presentation, they will receive a 0 for this part.
4. No food or drinks will be allowed during the group presentation.
5. When time is called, stop presenting.
6. Any reports caught with plagiarism will get mark 0.
Late Assignments
All assignments are due by the date and time specified in the assignment. Late assignments will
be penalized 10% per calendar day (not merely per class period) beginning with the due date.
After three late days, acceptance of the assignment is at my discretion. No extensions, no
exceptions. It is your responsibility to know the due dates and to plan accordingly.
Class Participation
Class participation points will be based on general class attendance, contribution in class and
compliance with the class rules delineated below. Poor class attendance, little contribution in
class or non-compliance with class rules will result in a poor class participation grade.
Below are class rules:
1. Arrive on time and be seated and ready to begin when the class begins. If you do arrive
late for more than 30 minutes, you will not be counted for that class. Note that this class
is intended for registered students only.
2. Come prepared – read the readings assigned.
3. Turn off cell phones during classes.
4. No food in class time.
5. Participate by contributing comments and questions during the discussions. The
instructor will call on students during the class if participants do not volunteer.
6. Please use common courtesy and polite manners in class.
Communication:
Studies show that students who engage in one-on-one discussions with the instructor about the
course receive better grades. I, therefore, encourage your discussion with me. You can
communicate during office hours, email or in class discussions. You also are welcome to make
separate appointments. I will be available before and after class, but only for short questions. I
also encourage feedback on the classes, lectures, teaching and reading material. We enhance the
class every semester and your thoughts are valuable in the process.
Intellectual Property:
All materials presented in class lectures including PowerPoint presentations and those materials
given are intellectual property of the instructor unless otherwise copyrighted. Any reproduction
or publication of this material without prior written permission is strictly forbidden.
