ABSTRACT
Background. Sepsis is one of the biggest problems that need attention, because sepsis is the leading
cause of death and critical illness worldwide so it needs to be diagnosed quickly to determine a fast and
appropriate management. Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS) is one of the criteria that
can be used in early diagnosis of sepsis, but in 2016 it was no longer recommended to use the SIRS
criteria in early diagnosis of sepsis. This study aims to determine the sensitivity and specificity of the
SIRS criteria against SOFA scores in the initial diagnosis of sepsis at the Bahteramas General
Hospital, Southeast Sulawesi Province. Method. This study was an observational descriptive cross-
sectional design. The research location is in the Medical Record Room of the Bahteramas General
Hospital. A sample of 72 respondents was taken using purposive sampling technique using 2x2 table
data analysis. Results. The results obtained SIRS criteria with a sensitivity of 61.11% and a specificity
of 38.11% to the SOFA score in septic and non-septic patients at Bahteramas General Hospital,
Southeast Sulawesi Province. Conclusion. SIRS criteria cannot be used to early diagnose sepsis
patients at Bahteramas General Hospital, Southeast Sulawesi Province because it has low sensitivity
and specificity values.
