Introduction to Bioinformatics
I. Target Learning Outcomes
At the end of this module, the students will be able to:
1. Review the central dogma of molecular biology and characteristics of genes
2. Discuss a brief history of bioinformatics

II. Task!
Individual activity: Reflection Essay

1. Watch this talk: “How to interpret the human genome” a TEDx talk by Dr. Alisha Holloway
2. Answer the question: “What has been the impact of genomics in your life?”

Format: Your essay should be in 1,000 words or less and written in a manner that can be
easily understood by stakeholders and accessible to the public. It should be on an A4
document with 1-inch margins, Arial, font size 10, and single space, and saved and submitted
as PDF. Observe proper in-text citations and referencing in APA format. The list of references
will not be included in the total word count.
