1. Two point–charges are a distance apart. If the distance is reduced to 7 th of its original
value, then what must be the relative permittivity of material that may fill the region
between the charges with no change in the force overall?

(OR)

What are the SI unit and the dimensional formula of the quantity Absolute
permittivity?

2. A point –charge ‘q’ is placed at the center of a cube. What is the total flux linked with
three faces of the cube that share a corner?

3. Name the quantity that has the SI unit joules per coulomb. Specify if it is a scalar or
vector.

4. How may a single piece of conductor be considered as a “capacitor’?

5. Electric potential due to a uniformly charged thin ring with charge ‘q’ and radius ‘a’, at
kq
its center is a . What is the field intensity at the point?

SECTION – B
6. Write the relation between field and potential. Hence, explain why potential
decreases in the direction of field.

7. Four thin, metallic plates are placed close and parallel to each other. If the charges on
the plates were-3µc, 0,+7µc and 8µc, then find the charges appearing on the eight
surfaces.

8. Torque acting on a dipole aligned at an angle 60o with the field is ‘  ’. Find the work
done in rotating the dipole from stable equilibrium position to the 60o position.

9. a) Define polarization as a vector quantity.

fluxes linked with “curved surface of the cylinder” and “a face of the cube not
containing the charge’’ show your working.
