In firing, the rule of separate loading of the gun mst be followed strictly; seat the shell with the ramrod so that the shell band seats firmly in the grooves and 1s not able to slide back from the effect of its own weight. It ie forbidden to ceat the projectile with the charge. 4, when reloading, after extracting the cartridge case with the charge from the chamber, if for some réason the gun was not fired (mis- fire, failure of case to fit into chanber), carefully inspect the chanber and be sure that no tufts with powder remain in the chamber. 5. Firing with the SP-46 illuminating shell should be done so that the burst takes place at about 600 meters above the gun level so that the maximim advantage can be hed of the burning time of the {lluminetion charge. The firing tables for the SP-'6 shell are therefore computed for a height of burst of 600 meters. Make sure that the recoil system and the recuperator are correctly | filled. | Do not fire if the piece fails to return to battery. e Check the reliability of the connection of the recoil system with ; the barrel and cradle. : At temperatures lower than 10 degrees, fire the first round with a i reduced charge (if the situation permits). Make sure that no dirt or sand gets into the bore; wipe the project~ iles before loading. Do not forget to renove the muzzle cover before firings otherwise [9 ,0] a premature detonation of the projectile is possible. P Make sure that no objects are in front of the muzzle or in the line of fire (branches of the camouflaging material, wires, ctc.) which might cause premature detonation of the projectile. Before firing, carefully wipe the bore of the gun to remove all grease, the presence of which can lead to impairment of the rifling and barrel swelling. ; 6. This scale is also used to fire the high-explosive fragnentation shell OF-482M with RGH-2 and V-l29 fuzes with full charge at ranges of 5,400 meters and over. The scale graduation for firing the above-mentioned projectiles within the above-given range limits is AX = 50 m. When firing the high-explosive fragmentation shell OF-482M at ranges up to 5,400 meters, it is necessary to make the sight adjustments ‘ indicated in the Firing Tables, since, in this case, the value of the 1 ‘scale graduations on the range drum is not equal to 50 meters. t The scales "OF VTOROY" (OF-second) and "OF-CHETVERTYY" (OF-fourth) are for firing the high-explosive fragmentation shell with the RGM-2 and V-029 fuzes with second and fourth charges, respectively; here the + scale graduation value AX = 50 meters. When firing the high-explosive fragmentation shell with the ROM-2 pil] and V-H29 fuzes and first and third charges, it is necessary to use the scales and the sight adjustments given in the appropriate firing | tables, since in these cases the value of the scale graduation on the range drum is not equal to 50 meters. | ' | | | | { ‘The range~drun scales are also marked on the "control dial" with the notations "POLN.", "No 2", and "Nol," for full, second and fourth charges, respectively. The angle of site mechanism, which is an ordinary cross level, is attached to the base of the telescope socket (Panoramic sight). The coarse scale of the angle of site mechanism ranges from 28-00 to 31-00 in graduations of 1-00. The fine scale of the angle of site mechanism ranges from 0 to 1-00 with graduations in 0-01. The zero position of the angle of site mechanism is 30-00. ' The sight has a mechanical transverse rocker with cross level for correcting the error in laying caused by the inclination of the trunnion axis. ‘The authorized panoramic gun sight is used to lay the piece in the horizontal plane. e The inscription, "Pushka H-6 Tablitsy Strel'by No 0265" (Gun M46 Firing Tables No 0265) is located on the sight range drum. i The sight marking "571-35" is located on the left side of the base - | of the telescope socket (panoramic sight). (Note): In firing the third and fourth charge after removing the necessary powder increments from the casing, the ring, cylinder lid and standard lid mist NO? be replaced. Before firing an illuminating shell, CP-l6, the cylinder lid, standard lid and, if possible, the ring, mist be renoved. ‘ ' | i In shell designs used in recent years, the seal system has been somewhat modified by eliminating ~ the ring, and the position of the standard 114 and of the cylinder lid has been modified somewhat. Before loading, it is obligatory to remove the reinforced lid from ‘the casing, but this must be done directly before preparing the charge @ for loading. When stored in the firing position charges mst be protected from direct influence of humidity and sunlight. 10.
