REFLECTIVE REPORT

Module Name: 7166EXQ Integrated Project

Module Leader: Gopalakrishnan Gomathinayagam
Submitted by: Gummadi Vamsi Prabhakar

The ability to appraise the challenges encountered when dealing with large scale civil
engineering projects are:
 Inadequate Risk Management risk
 Lack of Structure
 Poor Communication
 Unrealistic Expectations
 Delayed Cash Flow
 Limited Skills

The appropriate, integrate environmental and health and safety considerations into the
project.
Planning and implementation of health, safety and environmental principles in early stage of
industrial projects can prevent many negative consequences such as poor and quality
outcomes, schedule delays, reduced productivity and cost increases. This merger allows a
business to streamline its management, save time and increase efficiency by addressing all
elements of the management system as a whole
The Management System is an integrated approach where all the 3 factors are effectively
managed to reduce risks in the workplace. The objective of a Safety Management System is
to provide a structured management approach to control safety risks.
The appropriate, integrate environmental and health and safety considerations into the
project:
The four factors that include management commitment and employee involvement, worksite safety
analysis, hazard prevention and control, and safety and health training.
GIBBS REFLECTIVE CYCLE
Gibbs Reflective Cycle is a self-reflection and management tool that help people to think clearly and
systematically about the different experiences they have gone through during specific activity or
similar situation and draw conclusions.
The main idea of Gibbs reflective cycle is that people to think systematically about the experiences
they had during a specific situation, event or activity. Using a circle, reflection on those experiences
can be structured in phases.
The stages of Gibbs reflective cycle is self-awareness, description, critical analysis, synthesis, and
evaluation. This is the cognitive model of learning by reflection.
DESCRIPTION: What are you going to do differently
DESCRIPTION: What Happened
Feelings: Your reaction and feelings
Evaluation: what was good and bad
Conclusion: What have you learnt?
ACTION PLAN: What are you going to do differently
Describe:
In a group work assignment, we divided sections according to people’s strengths. When we tried to
piece the assignment together it was written in different styles and therefore we had to spend time
rewriting it.
 Feelings:
I thought our plan would work and felt good about it. When we had to rewrite it, I felt frustrated.
Evaluation:
The process of dividing sections went well. However, it didn’t work not having foreseen/planned
rewriting the sections for coherence and writing styles.
Analysis:
Dividing work according to individual strengths is useful. I have done it before and it seems to
work well.
The reason piecing work together didn’t work was we had no plan for what it needed to look like.
We were so focused on finishing quickly that no one would raise a concern. The last part can be
explained by groupthink where members of a group make a suboptimal decision because
individuals are afraid of challenging the consensus.

Conclusion:
Finally, I would do several things differently. I should have spoken to the class teacher immediately
after the session and voiced my opinions. I should also have been more assertive by advising the tutor
that I could continue with the lesson.
