Subject/Grade Level: Health Education, 1st


Time/Duration: 1-2 days

Objectives
Learn the importance of the food pyramid and the categories of all the food and where it goes on
the pyramid.

Standards/TEKS:
Health Education: Plan the lesson, gathering all the information on the Food Chain Pyramid.
Organize all the materials. It is expected for students to know all the placements of the food and
the names of the food levels.

Anticipatory Set
Asking the students what their favorite foods is and why?

Teaching: Input/Mini Lesson


Food Chain Pyramid, Pictures of food, Food Pyramid match worksheet.

Teaching: Modeling
Creating a rain cloud in a jar, Meteorologist for a day, Different clouds, weather watch activity

Teaching: Checking for Understanding


Show a completed food pyramid, showing where all the food goes and in the correct places.

Questioning strategies:
Have the students name a food and place into the correct categories.

Guided Practice
Students will be able to create their own pyramid and work together on a project as a class and
come up with all the levels of the food pyramid and the correct places the food goes.

Independent Practice
Homework given to each student, they will have a copy of an empty pyramid and they will need
to cut out the food and glue it into the correct places
Closure:
Have all the students come up and place on item on the pyramid and go over the levels of it and
the reasoning for it being there.
