15. Explain the conversion of galvanometer to a voltmeter with the help of a circuit diagram.
16. State and explain Ampere’s Circuital Law.
17. Mention any two sources of energy loss in a transformer.
18. Give two uses of infra-red waves.
PART – C
III. Answer any FIVE of the following questions. 5 × 3 = 15
19. Write any three properties of electric field lines.
20. Derive the expression for potential energy of a system of two point charges in the absence of external electric field.

24. Write any three applications of eddy currents.
25. Show that current leads the voltage by phase angle /2 in a capacitor when connected to AC.
26. Define critical angle. State the two conditions for total internal reflection.

PART – D
IV. Answer any TWO of the following questions. 2 × 5 = 10
27. Derive an expression for electric field on the equatorial line of an electric dipole.
28. Deduce the expression for the capacitance of a parallel plate capacitor. What happens to its capacitance when air

V. Answer any TWO of the following questions. 2 × 5 = 10
30. Derive an expression for force per unit length between two infinitely long straight parallel current carrying
conducting wires. Hence define “ampere”.
31. What is AC generator? Derive an expression for the instantaneous emf in AC generator.
32. Derive lens maker’s formula.
VI. Answer any THREE of the following questions. 3 × 5 = 15
33. The electrostatic force between two identical ions that are separated by 5.0 Å is 3.7 ×10 –9 N.
What is the charge on each ion? How many electrons are missing from each ion?
34. A 4 μF capacitor is charged by a 100 V supply. It is then disconnected from the supply, and is connected to another
