Faculty of Engineering
Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Spring Semester 2014-2015
EEE 1201: Electrical Circuits - 1 (DC)

1. Course Outline:

Academic Term : Spring 2014-2015

Course No : EEE 1201
Course Name : Electrical Circuits - 1 (DC)
Pre-requisites : PHY-1102
Credit point value : 03
Nature of the Course : Core course

Course Teachers : Mr. Wayesh Qarony

2. Course Description:

This is the fundamental course for engineering. This course will cover the basic things
like Units, DC sources, resistance and conductance, Ohm’s law along with the advanced topics
like Y-Delta conversion, Transient analysis of R-C and R-L circuits with DC excitation.

3. Objectives:

At the end of the course, the students should be able to:

Learn both the fundamental and advanced topics regarding DC circuits. They should be able to
utilize their skills to solve any DC circuit using different circuit theorems and transient analysis
method taught in the class.
4. Teaching Method:

1
Maximum topics will be covered from the textbook. For the Rest of the topics, reference
books will be followed. Some Class notes will be uploaded on the web. White board will be
used for most of the time.
For some cases, multimedia projector will be used for the convenience of the students.

Students must study up to the last lecture before coming to the class and it is suggested
that they should go through the relevant chapter before coming to the class. Just being present
in the class is not enough- students must participate in classroom discussions.

Marks of best two class tests will be taken out of 3 class tests for both Midterm and Final term. (No makeup class
test will be taken.)

9. Assessment rationale:

The examinations will consist of both short and broad questions regarding dc circuits.

3
10. Quiz & Assignments:

Quizzes will be unannounced and will be given on instructor’s discretion. Absolutely no

make-up will be permitted for quizzes. Hence, attendance in each and every lecture is highly
suggested.

If there is any assignment given to the students, they have to submit it before the deadline.
