The first quiz on October 27, 2021

Problem / Consistent Deformation Method
A given structure consists of a steel beam (W12×58) with a roller and a fixed end as
shown. Use the method of consistent deformation as presented in class to proceed the
following four questions being asked. The cantilever beam is the assumed determinate
structure. The section properties of the steel beam are given as follows: I = 475 in4,
E = 29000 ksi, G = 11200 ksi, and A = 30 in2. As  0.95A, which is the effective shear
area of section.

1. Find the support reactions (Ra and Mc) for the given structure as shown.

2. Find the joint rotation (a) at point a.

3. Find the deflection () at point b, considering only the contribution by the bending

moment along the structure.

4. Find the deflection () at point b, considering only the contribution by the shear

along the structure.
