OPTICS
I. Introductory Concept

The branch of Science where light interacts with objects is called optics. Optics
is the study of the refraction, reflection, absorption and transmission of light. Refraction
is the bending of light as it passes through different materials. Reflection refers to the
bouncing back of light, it might be straight if it hits flat surfaces and scattered way if it
hits uneven surfaces. Colors that we see in objects are the colors being reflected by
it. Absorption refers to material’s taking in of light and not reflecting it back.
Transmission refers to the passing of light through some materials. These materials may
either be: Transparent- objects that allows light to pass through them, Translucent-
objects that only let some light through them, Opaque- objects that do not let any
light through them. White is the presence of all colors while black is the absence of
colors.

II. Learning Skills/ Competency

Relate the ability of the material to block, absorb or transmit light to its use.
