“Those who cannot remember the past, are condemned to repeat it”
- Geogre Santayana
Many people think that history is merely lists of names, places, dates, and important events.
However, the study of history is more than just knowing and memorizing facts. There have
been many different approaches to the study of history. It is a historian’s duty to draw insights
from the ideas and realities that have shaped the lives of men and women and the society. But,
what is history? Why study history? How is it different from other disciplines or other forms of
writing? How is it the same?

CLOSURE
Activity 4:
POST – TEST
Pause for a few minutes and think about or reflect on your past. Has your past influenced you
in one way or another? How does your past shape your identity and behaviour?
Actually, I have a lot of memories that I'd like to resurrect, but they must be buried for now.
Living in the past is preferable to living in the present because it provides a greater sense of
community and enjoyment, particularly among the people. By modernization and
advancement, attitude, lifestyle, beliefs, climate and even tradition were affected.
Industrialization had some positive benefits, such as making work more affordable, employing
thousands of people, and improving people's daily lives, but causing exploitation to the
employees and contributing to overcrowding in cities and environmental harm. Unfortunately,
our world is far from its true beauty; nonetheless, I think that continuous improvement is
necessary, and I am willing to contribute to the world's transformation.
