Procedures A. Week Routines
Synchronous 1. Word of the Day
Learning 2. Idiom of the Week
3. Recap of the Previous Lesson (indicate the activity)

Answer the question “what do you love the most about having online
classes?” to review phrases, dependent clauses, and sentences.

The best thing about online learning is that it’s more flexible and I can
save time travelling to and from school . This means I can sleep a little
longer in the morning and spend more time doing past papers in the
evening. I’m actually getting more work done at home. Online learning
has also made me more disciplined, as I know teachers are monitoring
me through Zoom.  In short, online learning puts knowledge at our
fingertips, and it’s great!

B. Motivation

Students will look at two examples of a “hidden objects game” and the
teacher will ask them to compare one from the another.
C. Lesson Proper

Skimming is a process of speed reading that involves visually searching the

sentences of a page for clues to the main idea or when reading an essay, it can
mean reading the beginning and ending for summary information, then
optionally the first sentence of each paragraph to quickly determine whether to
seek still more detail, as determined by the questions or purpose of the reading.

When skimming, you get to understand the general idea of a passage without
wasting much time. The steps represented in the diagram below will help you
skim effectively.

Scanning is a reading
technique that you can use when searching for specific words, numbers, details
or answers. Just like skimming, it will be helpful if you follow the illustration
below.

 Skimming is a process that does not require reading the entire text just to be
able to get the needed information. You just need to get the general idea of the
selection by reading the first sentences of each paragraph.

 Scanning is likewise a technique to develop speed reading. Similarly, you just

need to focus on the specific clues to the questions attached to the selection.
Particular number, person’s names are among the hints that will help you spot
the correct answer.

Use skimming in previewing (reading before you read), reviewing (reading

after you read), determining the main idea from a long selection you don't wish
to read, or when trying to find source material for a research paper. Use
scanning in research to find particular facts, to study fact-heavy topics, and to
answer questions requiring factual support.

Advantage Disadvantage
SKIMMING It can save you hours You may miss
of laborious reading important points or
overlook the finer
shadings of meaning
SCANNING You can pick up It requires
specific information concentration and can
be surprisingly tiring

D. Oral Activity

Read this article and answer the questions that follows:

1. What can you say about the history of Language in the Philippines?
2. Why do you think it’s important for the people of one country to speak
a common language?
3. How many dialects are there in the Philippines?
4. What was the official language of the Philippines under the Spanish
colonization?
5. In what year was Tagalog named as the Philippines’ national
language?
Language
In the Philippines, there are about 76 to 78 major language groups, with more
than 500 dialects.
For more than 300 years, Spanish was the official language in the country
under Spanish rule. 60% of the population spoke Spanish as either a first,
second or third language in the early 20th century. But after the American
occupation in the early 1900’s, the use of Spanish began to decline. In 1935,
the Constitution of the Philippines named English and Spanish the official
languages. In 1939, the Tagalog language was named the national language. It
was renamed “Pilipino” in 1959 and finally “Filipino” in 1973.  The present
Constitution names Filipino and English as joint official languages.
