D.Discussing new 1. HEADLINE is the title or heading at the top of an article. It should be
concepts and catchy to grab reader's attention. There are five tested grammar rules for
practicing new skills a catchy Headline.
#1
Rule 1: Use present tense for events that have happened in the past.
This makes you feel that the news is current.
Rule 2: Leave out auxiliary verbs. These verbs take away space
without adding any new meaning.

Rule 3: Drop the articles (a, an, the). This is logic for saving space and
shortening headline without affecting the thought.

Rule 4: Replace attributive verbs with colon. Drop the attributive

verbs such as says or states.

Rule 5: Use infinitives for future events. The infinitive is a smart way
to indicate a future event.

Ex. COVID-19 deaths soar high in Cebu City

2. LEAD PARAGRAPH informs the reader of the most important aspects

of the story as soon as possible. The LEAD PARAGRAPH is often the
only part of the story that people read. For an effective lead, use the 5Ws
