Program: Bachelor in Secondary Education Major in Alternative Learning System

Institutional Outcomes: Graduates who are conscious of their professional responsibility and of their vocational and technological

Program Goal: The Bachelor of Secondary education is designed to meet the needs of professional teachers who can
teach in one of the different learning areas in secondary like Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences,
English, Filipino, Technology and Livelihood Education, Alternative Learning System, among others.

Program Outcomes:
The Graduates have the ability to:

Course Number and Title: ALS 1: Philosophy and Principles of ALS/Basic Education

Course Credits: 5 Units

Course Description: This course traces various philosophical history of ALS that includes humanist educators. This will also include the
thoughts and works of Paolo Freiri, Delor’s 4 Pillars of Learning and similar thoughts. It includes the beginning of ALS in the Philippines, the
framework for basic education and the characteristics/features of ALS. A big portion of the course is immersion where the students will work
in the community together with the ALS Teacher to learn the principles of ALS in action. Community immersion can be conducted in rural or
urban areas, in IP communities, in muslim communities, in jailhouses or in other places where ALS learners are found.
