within arms-length as well as within 100 yards to be incorporated into management of
conservation practices
o Utilized cameras to photograph the physical state of each nest weekly
o Noted any pests within the nests such as ants, wasps, and snakes, as well as any cowbird
eggs within the clutch
o Conducted casual surveys of any butterflies, bees, and moths as well as evidence of other
wildlife such as prints and scat with the help of binoculars
o Removed any overgrown grasses blocking the box entrance holes
o Compiled and summarized data from the season’s surveys and compared it to previous
season’s data to ascertain the success of conservation efforts. Data showed a 7% increase
in successful fledglings from the previous year.
o Assisted in preparation of report of the year’s data which was then submitted to the Cornel
Lab of Ornithology
