Viewing the Relationship Between Efficiency

Values and Average Capacity (Task)

Task 6-4 Business Profile
Work Center xx960 is staffed
by newly hired personnel. You
estimate for the next month
that because of training and
the learning curve the total
available hours for production
is reduced by one hour a day.
The supervisor for this work
center estimates that the
Guided Task Average Efficiency will be 70%
rather than 80%.

Figure 6-1: Viewing the Relationship Between Efficiency Values and

Average Capacity

Task Statement (6-4)

In this exercise you change the Average Efficiency rating to view the impact
on the Average Capacity. Then you change the Load Percentage to view the
impact on Average Capacity.

Task Component
Viewing the relationship between Average Efficiency and Average Capacity
requires two components:

1. Change the values.

2. Exit then re-enter the application to see the results.
3. Return the values back to their original settings.

Navigation Path to Work Center Maintenance

Before you start the exercises, navigate again to CAP100.
Change the Values - Component 1
Based on your input in the previous tasks, the values display as:

You Input BPCS Calculates These Values

Average Efficiency 80 Available Capacity 6.78
Load Percentage 100
Standard Speed 40
# of Shifts 1
Hours per Shift 7.5
Number of Machines 1 Machine Speed Factor 1.13

1. Type 70 as the Average Efficiency.

The other values remain the same.

Exit, then Re-enter the Window to See the Results -

Component 2
1. Press Enter three times to navigate through all windows.
Stop at the Selection (CAP100D1-01) window.
2. Type 2 in the Act column.
3. Type xx960.
The table below illustrates the changes that display. Notice the Available
Capacity is less than you had before.

You Input BPCS Calculates These Values

Average Efficiency 70 Available Capacity 5.93
Load Percentage 100
Standard Speed 40
# of Shifts 1
Hours per Shift 7.5
Number of Machines 1 Machine Speed Factor 1.13

 Adding machines, hours per shift, number of shifts will all

impact the average capacity calculation.
Return the Values Back to Their Original Settings -
Component 3
For temporary changes to Average Efficiency or Load Percentages, you
rarely want to make these changes in the Work Center Master. After all the
changes are temporary, and it is too easy to forget to go back in and change
the values to their traditional settings. Instead, temporary changes should be
made in the Shop Floor Calendar.

1. Type 80 for Average Efficiency.

2. Press Enter three times.
3. Press F3 (Exit).
