Thank you for purchasing CLASS-Agent Software. To get the most out of this software, read this
manual carefully before use.
This instruction manual describes how to use and operate “CLASS-VP Agent” data-management
programs for CLASS-Agent Software. It assumes that the user has a basic familiarity with Windows®
XP/2000/NT and experience using a personal computer.
The basic terminology used in Windows® XP/2000/NT is used in this instruction manual to explain
procedures for using CLASS-Agent Software. For definitions of unfamiliar words, please refer to the
Windows® XP/NT/2000 manual or help file.
A first-time user of Windows® XP/2000/NT should first obtain a basic level of understanding of the
operating system before reading this manual.

About CLASS-Agent Software
This software (“CLASS-Agent Software”) is database management software designed to create a
link between data processing application software and a database. It provides various database
management functions and capabilities. Data can be automatically stored in a database that is
created in a format used in general-purpose database applications, such as MS-Access and MS
SQL Server and Oracle. Data stored in the database can be sorted by sample, instrument or user.
This makes it easier for the user to sort analysis/measurement data (analysis/measurement files)
that are read from any Shimadzu product (HPLC, GC, LC/MS, GC/MS, UV-VIS, FTIR and AA
spectrophotometers, TOC analyzers, Thermal analyzers, electronic balances) and other analytical
instruments.
With this software, the user can perform an analysis without having to decide where to store
analysis results and what to specify as a filename. The user is able to analyze data stored in a
database, summarize analysis results, and prepare detailed printed reports like test reports,
summary reports, and daily routine reports. These data management capabilities are designed to
relieve the user from the burden of storing and recording data, thereby increasing the efficiency of
routine operations.
In this software, a database can be created in a format used by commercially available

general-purpose database applications. The user is able to create a personalized database using
application software such as MS-Access, MS-Excel and MS-Word.
About the Instruction Manual

The authors have used their best efforts to prepare this document and provide current information.
However, the information and software discussed in this document are subject to change. For the
latest information, read the contents of the "README2.TXT" file in the program directory of this
software.
The names of data processing software and equipment are expressed generically. Model names
and type names are indicated where it is necessary to identify software or equipment.
This software package is referred to as "CLASS-Agent Software" in this manual.

1 Introduction
CLASS-VP Agent is software designed for making automatic entries of analysis results collected by the
CLASS-VP system to databases shared by all types of CLASS-Agent Software. When chromatographic
data is analyzed and exported on a standard report with the export and method settings of CLASS-VP
Agent, a collection of chromatogram data such as analyzed result, analysis file, and AIA-format file are
automatically added and registered to databases specified by the CLASS-VP Auto Entry program.
The Agent Manager software that comes with CLASS-VP Agent makes it easier to view, print or
approve stored data, add sample information, copy data to other applications and restore analysis files.
CLASS-VP Agent software supports GLP/GMP-compliant security capabilities and log capabilities,
making it easier to audit the operations performed by users.
1.1 Features
CLASS-VP Agent supports CLASS-VP Software Version 5.02 or higher, except that analysis
data obtained from a PDA detector cannot be saved to AIA-format file.
This program provides the following features.
1. Stores analysis data automatically (saved to compressed archive files).

2. Keeps records of analysis results (analysis values are stored in databases).
3. Keeps analysis logs. The analysis logs contain data on registered user names,
displayed user names, and operations performed by each user.
4. Provides security management for analysis data. See Note 1.
5. Stores or views analysis data and logs on a LAN.
6. Extracts, views, sorts or prints stored data.
7. Executes approval workflow.
8. Adds sample information (lot number, sampling place, time, etc.).
9. Transfers data and chromatograms to other applications.
10. Restores analysis files and method files.
11. Sends notice of analysis completion or analysis data by e-mail. See Note 2.
12. Uploads approved data to the host. See Note 3.
Note 1. C2 level security protection requires MS-Windows NT/2000.

Note 2. Analysis data is manually transferred using Agent Manager.

1.1.1 Features of the CLASS-VP Automatic Agent Program

The CLASS-VP Automatic Agent Program (VP60_TT2.EXE) allows automatic entry of
analysis data obtained from a CLASS-VP instrument to a database.
A user can do the following:

1. Organize information on standard report form for database registration.
2. Save analysis files as archive files.
(Data files, Method files, Schedule files, or AIA files).
3. Assign databases to each analytical instrument.
4. Sort data by sample name, sample ID, user name or operation date (Month).
5. Save AIA files as object link files.
6. Keep a log of database registration.
7. Share and control system resources on a LAN.
8. Run an application when registering data to a database.
1.1.2 Features of the CLASS-VP Manual Agent Program

The CLASS-VP Manual Agent Program (VP60_MT2.EXE) allows manual entry of analysis
data obtained from a CLASS-VP system and stored in an analysis file to a specified database.

1. Store calculation result information in a database.
2. Save analysis files as archive files (Data files, Method files, Schedule files or AIA files).
3. Save AIA files as object link files.
4. Keep a log of database registration.
5. Share and control system resources on a LAN.
6. Run an application upon registering data in a database.
1.1.3 Features of Agent Manager

The Agent Manager program (Agentman2.exe) enables a user to view analysis data in a database
from a personal computer on a local area network. This feature can be used on all personal
computers to which the Agent Manager program has been installed, regardless of whether the
Automatic Agent Program is installed. An Administrative CLASS-Agent Software License is
required.

1. View a list of databases.
2. View, extract, sort or print sample information/analysis values stored in a database.
3. View a combination of data information and sample information, and display several rows
of a data information/sample information table.
4. Copy, move, or delete information contained in a database.
5. Decompress compressed files, or restore analysis files.
6. View object link files (AIA files). More than one chromatogram can be displayed.
7. Copy displayed data or object data (chromatograph data) to the Clipboard.
8. Set an approval flag to data according to the approval flowchart.
9. Add sample tag information (lot number, sampling place, etc.) up to 10 items.
10. View or print a log of stored data.
11. Send analysis data by e-mail.
12. Create user accounts and user groups (for security protection).
13. Create new databases in MDB format (SQL format requires the use of optional programs).

1.2 Handling Precautions

When using CLASS-Agent Software, the following precautions should always be followed.
1.2.1 Before Using CLASS-Agent Software

1. Using CLASS-Agent Software on a LAN
(1) CLASS-Agent Software recognizes a network computer name as a registered
instrument name. Do not connect PCs on a LAN if they have the same name.
(2) Use a unique name for an analysis device name that can read by the
Automatic Agent Program. The unique name should be identified in the
database.
2. About Archive Files and Object Link Files

CLASS-Agent Software supports MS-Windows' long filenames (up to 255
characters).
3. About Database Name and Subdirectories

CLASS-Agent Software automatically creates a directory where a database is
stored and subdirectories where archives files and object link files are stored, so
that these files are linked to databases. Do not change database names and
directory names using Windows Explorer. If a database name or directory name is
changed, the files cannot be found by the CLASS-Agent software and archive
files cannot be decompressed.
4. Using the Accessory Programs

CLASS-Agent Software comes with accessory programs. Do not use these
accessory programs in any other application software. Use the accessory
programs in accordance with their respective manuals.
5. Running Other Applications

Do not run CLASS-Agent Software and other applications that are not supported
by CLASS-Agent Software at the same time. Even if CLASS-Agent Software and
applications supported by CLASS-Agent Software are used at the same time, an
error may be caused due to heavy load, depending on CPU speed, memory space
and use of a LAN. Use only the PC that meets the minimum system requirements.
6. About Database Size

• For an MDB-format database, set the maximum number of records in a sample
information table to somewhere around 10,000. If records exceed the maximum
number, create a new database so that the records can be divided between the
two databases. Use CLASS-Agent Software to create the new database.
• For an MSDE (Microsoft Database Engine) database, the upper limit of the
database size is 2 GB. If data to be saved exceeds this, the data is saved in an
MDB-format temporary database. The administrator should check the database
size temporarily, and change the settings of the Agent system so that the data is
saved to a new database before the database size reaches 2 GB. Alternatively,
the administrator should make a backup of the database, then delete unnecessary
data to increase free space in the database. To handle databases of 2 GB or more,
replace the current system with the SQL Server system (sold separately).

7. Restriction in Character Codes Available in a Database

In the display field of a database table, codes for “|” (pipe), line feed and tab
cannot be input. If these codes are included in an element name or comment, they
are automatically replaced with a space.

8. About Setting the Date

When using Class-Agent, do not set the day of the week in "Short date style"
available by choosing [Control Panel] → [Region Settings] → [Date].

In Agent Ver. 2, any time in the date field of a database is stored as the GMT
(Greenwich Mean Time).
To display the local time while the database is directly accessed, adjust the stored
GMT time.
9. Changing the Password Using the Database Software

When the password of a database is changed using the database software
(MS-Access, SQL Server or Oracle), the database link setting in the Agent
Manager and the Automatic/Manual Agent should be reset.

1.2.2 About the Automatic Agent Program

1. Starting the program for the first time
Settings for instrument names and database assignment are not factory-set for the
Automatic Agent Program. Before using the Automatic Agent Program, a user
who has administrative responsibilities must log in, define a Login ID and create a
database.
2. Displaying the progress meter for file compression

The progress meter for file compression is displayed while various analysis data
is compressed and saved to an archive file. For routine operations, turn off the
check box for displaying the progress meter. If that check box is turned on, the
progress meter may pop up while other applications are running, causing the
screen to flicker.
3. Using the taskbar for routine operations

For routine operations, minimize the main screen of the Automatic Agent
Program to an icon in the taskbar. If the main screen is open on the desktop, the
[Logout] button may be clicked by mistake.
4. Security protection against automatic login attempts

If an Auto-login option is selected, a login attempt can be made under any login
ID different from the one assigned. Do not use an Automatic-login option if it is
necessary to control access and manage users at a login. Define and assign a
password to each user.
5. Running an external application

When settings are made for running external applications, specify applications
that meet the minimum conditions described below. If these settings are not
properly made, a particular application may start each time automatic entries are
made, leaving several instances of the application open. This causes error
messages to appear, and makes it impossible to run other applications.
Conditions:
1. An application must automatically terminate each time a single task of data
processing is completed.
2. Data processing time ends within the intervals of registering data to a
database for automatic entries.
3. If two or more of the same application are open at the same time, operations
can be made each window.
4. An application displays no more messages than necessary.

6. About Automatic/Manual Registration

• The following setting should not be made when using automatic registration
with CLASS-VP.
On the “Network Storage” setting screen (displayed by choosing [Method] →
[Advanced]), do not enable the “Copy file after acquisition” checkbox.
• Observe the following if several analysis instruments are connected to
CLASS-VP.
When several analysis instruments are connected to CLASS-VP, a longer period
may be needed for processing to occur. This is dependent on the specifications
of the PC running CLASS-VP. An error log may be generated if the processing
speed of the PC is low.
If this occurs, set longer time in the "Time interval about import folder" in the
configuration of CLASS-VP Agent automatic registration.

1. Program Operation
This program will only operate with CLASS-VP versions greater than Version
5.03. Use the agent program only after upgrading to a version of CLASS-VP
greater than 5.03.
Registration of an ANDI format file is only performed when an ANDI format file
containing the desired data already exists on the disk. Note that automatic ANDI
file preparation is not done in this program.
2. Starting the program for the first time

Settings for instrument names and database assignment are not factory set for the
Manual Agent Program. Before using the Manual Agent Program, a user who has
administrative permissions must log in, define a Login ID and create a database.
3. Security protection against automatic login attempts

If an Automatic login option is selected in the configuration settings, a login
attempt can be made under any login ID. Do not use an Automatic login option if
it is necessary to control access and manage users at a login. Define and assign a
password to each user.
4. Running an external application

External applications to be run automatically by the Agent software must meet the
conditions described below. If these conditions are not observed, multiple
instances of a particular application may remain open. This will cause error
messages to appear and make it impossible to run other applications.
Conditions:
1. An application must automatically terminate each time a single task of data
processing is completed.
2. If two or more of the same application are open at the same time, operations
can be made each window.
3. An application should display no more messages than necessary.
5. Correspondence version of the Manual Agent Program

The manual registration program becomes correspondence only of CLASS-
VP Ver6.xx.
It doesn't correspond to CLASS-VP Ver5.xx and CLASS-VP Ver7.xx.

1.2.4 About the Agent Manager Program

1. About the Default System Administrator
If running CLASS-Agent Manager for the first time, log in to CLASS-Agent
Manager using the following: ID= “Admin” and Password= “” (blank). After
starting CLASS-Agent Manager, change this login ID's password. The login ID
“Admin” is the Supervisor account that has the system administration permission
for CLASS-Agent Software. The login ID “Admin” is automatically created
during installation. The user account with login ID “Admin” is not displayed on
the user information screen.
2. Sharing a Database on a LAN

To share files on a local area network (LAN), set up the network capabilities in the
"Configuration" dialog box in CLASS-Agent Manager after the installation of
CLASS-Agent Software is completed. If folders are shared on a LAN after
CLASS-Agent Manager is installed, care should be taken to select the appropriate
options, otherwise the settings for instrument information and log information
may be overwritten. After these settings are made, create user accounts so that
system resources can be shared on a LAN.
3. Creating a User Account

Specify a login ID, user name and security level when creating a user account.
The creation of a user account is limited to users having the Administrator
permission. Each user can change his or her own password at any time after
logging in to CLASS-Agent Manager.
4. Creating a Database
In the "New MDB Database" dialog box in CLASS-Agent Manager, create an
MDB database to store analysis data. The creation of a database is limited to users
having Administrator permission. To create an MS SQL Server formatted
database or MSDE (Microsoft Database Engine) formatted database, use the
CLASS-Agent Manager accessory program for creating an SQL database.
5. Listing and Viewing Log Databases or Temporary Databases

By default, three databases are displayed on a database list screen in
CLASS-Agent Manager. They include the system log database, temporary data
database (Temp_Dt2.mdb) and temporary log database (Temp_Log2.mdb). They
are created during installation, with passwords assigned. These databases cannot
be viewed using MS Access or any other application. These databases can only be
viewed in CLASS-Agent Manager.

6. Screen Saver
When this software is started after installation in the ER/ES mode, the system is
set so that the screen saver dedicated to the Agent system is automatically
activated. After this software is closed, the system returns to the original setting.
For Windows NT, the screen lock is valid. If a password is required, set a
password for the screen lock in the OS.
The default value of the time until the screen saver starts is 5 minutes. To change
this value, change “common.inf2” in "Environment Setting" of the Agent
Manager. For example, to set to 10 minutes the waiting time until the screen saver
starts, add the following two lines.

7. Log Types
Log information is separated into the data log for data operations and the system
log (Log2.mdb) where logs related to the system are saved.
When the contents of the database storing the data acquired from the analysis
instrument are changed, the history of such changes is stored in the data log.
When the contents of options not directly related to the data are changed, the
history of such changes is stored in the system log.
Click the log on the database tree to display the log information on the sample
information table.
8. Precautions for Multiple Users in Windows NT

• The common network settings offered by choosing [Tool] → [Configuration] on
the Agent Manager menu should be executed by a user having the NT “Power
Users” or “Administrators” permission.
• In multi-user mode of NT, all other settings should be executed for each user ID.
The Agent system administrator should login using each NT user ID, and
perform the required settings.

2.1 CLASS-VP Setup

Before using CLASS-VP Agent, make the Method settings for automatic entries. The Automatic
Agent program does not run properly if Method settings are not made. For CLASS-VP Software
operation, see the CLASS-VP Software Instruction Manual.
Procedure
1) Choose [Method] → [Advanced]. Advanced settings are specific to each channel and must
be made for each channel. The number of instruments connected times the number of
channels is the number of settings required.
2) The "Advanced Settings" dialog box is displayed.

• Turn on the "Export Enabled" check box. This check box must be checked to register data
to a database. If this check box is off, no file is exported; and the Automatic Agent program
does not detect exported data.
• In the "Export options" section, set the "Field separator" list box to "Tab."
• Next, specify the path for file export as follows.
For CLASS-VP Ver. 7.xx

Set up export parameters as shown in the figure below. Check the "Export Enabled" box
and select [Standard Report] from the "Parameters to export" drop down box. Select
"Sample Information Report" and all “* Report” click the right (green) arrow button to
move it into the "Export these parameters" box.
Moreover, please set it in the value that wants to use the unit of Decimals. (It is necessary
to do this setting by each Report.)

• Select "Chromatogram" from the list box, and move “AIA (*.CDF)” to the "Export these
parameters" pane.
• After the setting for channels required is complete, save the Method settings to a file.
Moreover, Save as Default the Method settings to a file.

Set up export parameters as shown in the figure below. Check the "Export Enabled" box
and select [Miscellaneous] from the "Parameters to export" drop down box. Select
"Sample Information" and click the right (green) arrow button to move it into the "Export
these parameters" box.
Check this check box. Click on this button to select.
Specify the same folder name

as the import folder specified in
the System Configuration
settings for Automatic Agent.
• Select "Chromatogram" from the list box, and move “AIA (*.CDF)” to the "Export these
parameters" pane. If CLASS-VP Agent Version 5.02 is being used, AIA-formatted files

Agent.

2.2.1 Starting the Automatic Agent Program

1. Before using the program
Before using the CLASS-VP Automatic Agent program, create a user account and database
using the Agent Manager program. In Automatic Agent, specify a user ID and password at a
login to the system. For these procedures, see the CLASS-Agent Manager Software
Instruction Manual.
2. Starting the program

The following shows two typical methods of starting the program.
Using the Start button

Click the [Start] button, point to [Programs] → [Class-Agent Software Ver.2.0] and click
[CLASS-VP Automatic Agent].

(1) On the desktop, double-click the icon for the CLASS-Agent Software Ver.2.0. The

2.2.2 Logging In to the System

After the program starts, the "Login" dialog box is displayed.

user account. If they match the stored entries, the main screen is displayed under login status.
Clicking the [Cancel] button aborts a login attempt, but the main screen is displayed. To gain

2.2.4 Specifying a Database for Each Instrument

Assign a destination database to each instrument in CLASS-VP. The following procedure shows
an example in which analysis data obtained from analytical instrument 1 is stored in the database
named C:\Agent2\example(normal).mdb. First, create the database using Agent Manager.
1) Click the "Assign database per instrument" menu item in the "Menu List" pane, The "Assign
database per instrument" worksheet is displayed in the right-hand pane. CLASS-VP can be
connected to a maximum of 4 HPLC systems(Max 8). In the right-hand pane, a database is
assigned to each instrument.

2) Double-click “Instrument 1” in the first row of the "Assign database per instrument" pane, or
click the “Instrument 1” row and click the [Edit] button. The "Assign database per

1) Instrument Name
By default, a system name is Instrument 1. A system name may be specified at any time. Do
not leave the "Instrument Name" text box blank.
2) Use VP instrument name

The instrument name is set to the name used in CLASS-VP.
This is valid for CLASS-VP Ver. 5.03 or later.
3) Register data
Click the "Register data" check box so that it is turned on, as shown in the figure. If this
check box is off, data is not stored in a database.
4) Destination database
In the "Destination database" text box, specify a database in which to store data. Clicking the
[Browse] button opens the "Select Database" dialog box.

folder name can be selected from a listing.

6) User Name
In the "User Name" list box, specify a user name that accompanies data information stored
in the selected database. If the "Login user name" option is selected, the name of a user who
is currently logged in will be recorded with data information in the selected database.

setting. The contents of the "Assign database per instrument" pane is updated, as shown

3.3 Command Buttons

(1) The [Taskbar] button
The CLASS-VP Automatic Agent main screen does not have the window
Maximize/Minimize buttons and their respective menu commands. To hide CLASS-VP
Automatic Agent, click the [Taskbar] button. The CLASS-VP Automatic Agent window
will be minimized to an icon in the taskbar.

Automatic Agent to reopen a closed main screen.
Although the main screen disappears from the desktop, the task of storing data in a database
continues. The icon in the taskbar changes its color, depending on the operating status of the

[NOTE] In ER/ES (Electronic Record/Electronic Signature) mode, double- or right-clicking

the CLASS-VP icon displays the user check dialog. The correct password must be
entered to re-display the window.
(2) The [Login] button
The CLASS-VP Automatic Agent program provides security protection that restricts system
use to previously defined authorized users, and grants permissions to restrict the operations
that users may perform. The login procedure restricts access and system use to authorized
users. User’s activities are recorded in a log database. A log database can be viewed using
Agent Manager.

The [Login] button opens the "Login" dialog box, as shown below.
Procedure
1) Type a login ID and password in the text boxes. Passwords are case-sensitive.
2) Click the [OK] button. A user will be allowed to gain access to the system if the login ID
and password entered meet the following conditions.
• The login ID entered matches the one registered to Agent Manager.

• The password entered matches the one assigned to the login ID entered.
• The Run Agent/GW permission has been granted to the user who has entered the
login ID.
If these conditions are not met, the user will have to make a login attempt by clicking
[Login] when the program starts. Clicking the [Cancel] button or logging in with a user
account that does not have the Run Agent/GW permission starts the program in logout
status. See the [Logout] button.
(3) The [Logout] button
This button enables a user to log out without exiting the program. The user can no longer
make settings or store data in a database; however, the user can use command buttons other
than the [Logout] button. This button is useful when several users take turns performing
operations while running the program, or when a user intentionally stops storing data in a
database throughout the system.
The [Logout] button opens the "Logout" message box, shown below.

(4) The [Help] button
This button opens the help window for a particular topic about the main screen. It is useful
when a user needs on-line help while using the program. Pressing the F1 key also opens the
help window; however, this shows the help topics related to the currently open window.
(5) The [Exit] button
This button exits the program. It automatically executes the logout procedure if the program
is directly terminated under login status.

3.4 Status Bar

The status bar indicates the operating status of the program.

1) Operating status indicator

The operating status is indicated in the following three ways. An icon in the taskbar changes
its color depending on the operating status of the program.
The “Ready” status means that the program is on standby after a login,
monitoring CLASS-VP data output.
Green
The “Processing” status means the program is now processing and

registering CLASS-VP data output to a database.
Yellow
The “OFF” status means that the program is logged out. Even if
CLASS-VP data is output, it will not be processed or registered to a
Gray database.
2) Login user indicator

This indicates the name of the currently logged in user. The word “Logout” is displayed after
a logout.
3) Database status indicator

This indicator counts the number of times data is written into a database. The database status
is indicated in the following three ways.
OK This indicates the number of times all data and logs are processed and registered in a
normal condition.
WA This indicates the number of times data is registered in a normal condition but log
information is not properly written. The log information is stored in a temporary log
database (TMP_LOG2.MDB).
NG This indicates the number of times data cannot be registered to a database. The data is
stored in a temporary database (TMP_DT2.MDB), while the log information is
stored in a temporary log database (TMP_LOG2.MDB).

3.5 Using the Menu List

Menu items are listed in the left-hand pane of the main screen. Clicking a menu item displays
settings for the selected menu item in the right-hand pane. The selection of these menu items is
restricted to users having the Option/Configuration permission. If a user does not have this
permission, only the "Status" pane is displayed. Changes made to settings are saved to the
system registry, and they remain effective even after the program is exited.
The menu has the following 8 setting options.

• "Status"
• "Configuration"
• "Assign database per instrument"
• "Select database by keyword priority"
• "Data registration opetions"

3.5.1 Viewing the Status

- The "Status" pane -
The "Status" pane displays the status of various things, such as the registration to databases,
compressed files, login procedure, logout procedure and error information. This message box
provides no settings options. If the text displayed in this pane exceeds 100 lines, the text is saved
to the setup folder named Vp60_TT2.LOG. If the Vp60_TT2.LOG file is already available, it is
renamed Vp60_TT2.BAK each time a new log is recorded. Thus, a log of old status information
can be viewed. These log files can be retrieved using a text editor like Notepad.
3.5.2 Configuration Settings

The following describes how to make settings for basic operating conditions of the Automatic
Agent program. The use of this feature is restricted to users having the Property/Option
permission.
- The "Configuration" pane -

• The "Normal login" check box

If this check box is on, the "Login" dialog box is displayed when a user has started the
Automatic Agent program and has clicked the [Login] button. This check box displays the
login ID entered by a user at the last login (or when the Automatic Agent program was exited).
• The "Auto login" check box

If this check box is on, a user can automatically log in to the system under the login ID and
password, defined in the "Login ID" and "Password" text boxes. Since the login ID and
password entered in these text boxes are not subject to verification, define a login ID and
password with care. If this check box is on, the "Login" dialog box does not appear when a user
starts the Automatic Agent program. The auto-login settings are useful when security
protection is not needed, but they are not recommended if security is needed. To prevent
auto-login settings from being changed, assign the Option/Configuration permission only to
users who require it.
• The "Register this program to Windows Startup" check box

This check box is used to specify automatic activation of the Automatic Agent program after
Windows starts. If this check box is turned on as shown in the figure, the Automatic Agent
program automatically starts.
• The CLASS-VP Version list box

Please select the setting to the version of CLASS-VP used version.
• The "Import folder" list box

The CLASS-VP Automatic Agent program imports a text-formatted file that is exported to a
folder by CLASS-VP Software, and registers imported data to a database. This list box is used
to specify time intervals at which the availability of files to be imported should be monitored.
A time interval can be set to any duration between 5 seconds and 60 seconds (in 5 second
steps).
• The "Delete import files at login" check box

This check box is used to specify whether to delete files contained in the import folder at login.
If a file exported by CLASS VP Software is available in the import folder before using the
Automatic Agent program, imported data is registered to a database. For routine operations,
turn on this check box.

3.5.3 System Configuration Settings

The settings for each analytical instrument may be viewed and edited. The use of this feature is
restricted to users having the Property/Option permission.

current settings, double-click the row in the system configuration status list where changes are to

Select any item in the system configuration status list and click the [Edit] button. The "Assign
database per instrument" dialog box is displayed.

Although the settings made in the "Select database by keyword priority" pane are applied to
destination databases, make the setting in the "Assign database per instrument" dialog box
because the system configuration setting is the basic setting for database registration. Clicking
the [OK] button saves changes made and closes the "Assign database per instrument" dialog box.
Clicking the [Cancel] button or pressing the ESC key aborts changes made and closes the
"Assign database per instrument" dialog box. Clicking the [Help] button or pressing the F1 key
opens the help window.
The database register to instrument 1 becomes the database of default for CLASS-VP7. Please
distribute instrument name by “Select database by keyword priority” when you register since
instrument 2 in another database.
• The "Instrument name" text box

CLASS-VP Software can be connected to a maximum of 4 HPLC systems(max:8 include
postrun). In this text box, specify the name of the system to be used when registering data to a
database.
• The "Use VP instrument name" check box

This setting is available when the "CLASS-VP 5.03 form" use in "Configuration". The
instrument name is received from the output CLASS-VP data and registered in a database.
When this check box is set to OFF, the instrument name entered here is registered in a
database.
• The "Register data" check box

If this check box is on, an import folder is monitored at regular intervals. When data is
exported from analysis software, the data exported is registered to a specified database. If this
check box is off, output data from analysis software is not registered to a specified database,
and a setting for assigning a database by keyword is disabled.

• The "Destination database" text box

In this text box, specify the destination database where data is to be stored. A destination
database can be selected from a listing in the "Select Database" dialog box that is displayed by
clicking [Browse] button.

The "Select Database" dialog box displays a list of databases created and linked in Agent
Manager. Clicking the [OK] button selects databases, and closes the "Select Database" dialog

window. The use of the [Add to list] and [Delete from list] buttons is restricted to users having

• The "Import folder" text box(VP ver.5.02 before)

In this text box, specify the name of the folder to which data is exported from CLASS-VP.
Files created in this folder are automatically imported and registered to a database. Type a
folder name directly in this text box, or click the [Browse] button to open the "Select Folder"
dialog box, where a folder name can be selected from a listing.
[NOTE] In Ver. 5.03, this setting is not required. This is set under "Configuration".

Click the [OK] button to specify a selected folder as an import folder.

• The "User name" list box

In this list box, specify a user name to be registered to a database. User names are useful as
keywords when extracting data and registering it to a database using Agent Manager. If the
pull-down button in the right-hand end of the "User name" list box is clicked, a listing of user
names is displayed.
Select any of the following 3 options.
1. "Login user name"

The name of a user who is currently logged in is registered to the database.
2. CLASS-VP’s user name

The name of a user who is logged into the CLASS-VP program is registered to the
database.

Select a user name from a listing of the user names registered in Agent Manager. If a user
name is selected, the "Password" dialog box appears. If the password entered does not
match the one assigned to the login ID for the selected user, user names cannot be selected
from the listing.

3.5.4 Database Assignment Settings

The settings for assigning databases by keyword can be displayed or edited. The use of this
feature is restricted to users having the Property/Option permission.

If the specified characters (keyword) are included in "allot key type" of data output from
analysis software, that data is automatically registered to a specified database. A maximum of 20
settings can be made.

[ADD] Clicking the [ADD] button adds a new keyword to the keyword setting status list.
The "Select database by keyword priority" dialog box is displayed.
[Edit] Clicking the [Edit] button or double-clicking a previously specified item allows
changing a previously specified item. The "Select database by keyword priority"
dialog box is displayed.
[Delete] Clicking the [Delete] button deletes a row of the selected item from the keyword
setting status list. The "Caution" message box is displayed, prompting for con-
firmation. Clicking the [Yes] button deletes the item. Clicking the [No] button
aborts the deletion.

This column shows either a sample ID or user name that is currently selected.
• The "Keyword" column

This column shows the characters to be searched for in the data indicated in the "Key item"
column.

This column shows database names to which data is registered if a keyword is found in the
output data from a CLASS-VP instrument.
• The "User name" column

This column shows the user names that are registered to a database.
Assigning Databases by Keyword

The "Select database by keyword priority" dialog box is used to select destination databases
according to keywords contained in sample information. The use of this feature is restricted to
users having the Property/Option permission.

If particular keywords that represent sample information, such as sample IDs and user names,
Filename, Instrument Number , Instrument Name, are included in output data from CLASS-VP,
a destination database can be automatically changed to another database.
• The "Key item" list box

In the list box, select data to search for a keyword. Clicking the pull-down button selects either
a sample ID or user name.
• The "Keyword" text box

Specify a keyword to search for in data specified in the "Key item" list box. This field is not
case-sensitive.
• The "Destination database" text box

Specify the database where the data is to be saved if it contains the keyword. A destination
database must be selected from a listing in the "Select Database" dialog box that is displayed
by clicking the [Browse] button.

3.5.5 Data Registration Options

Set options for the data registration method.
The use of this feature is restricted to users having the Property/Option permission.

• The "Register data file after reprocessing" check box

The setting of this check box can he changed only when "CLASS-VP 5.03 form" is set to ON
in "Configuration". When this check box is set to ON, both the analysis data and the reanalysis
data of the CLASS-VP are registered in a database. If it is set to OFF, only the analysis result is
registered.
• The "Exclude ‘Spectrum Max Plot’ data" check box

In analysis (or reanalysis) of three-dimensional data, if the maximum plot channel of the
spectrum does not have to be registered in a database, set this check box to ON.
• The "Exclude 'Spectrum Current Plot' data" check box

In analysis (or reanalysis) of three-dimensional data, if the current plot channel of the spectrum
does not have to be registered in a database, set this check box to ON and Select detector name.
• The "Register Acrobat file (*.PDF) to LinkFile10 field" check box

Set this check box to ON to register a PDF document file, output from the CLASS-VP, to a
database. The PDF document file is registered as an object file in the Link File 10 in the sample
information table. Click the [Browse] button to display the folder selection screen, then select
a folder to which the PDF file is output from CLASS-VP.
Enter the delay time required until CLASS-VP outputs a PDF file after it has finished analysis
or reanalysis to the "Wait time to monitor PDF report output" list box.
• The "Register VP data file (*.DAT) to LinkFile 9 field" check box

Set this check box ON to register a CLASS-VP data file to the database.
The CLASS-VP data file is registered as an object file in the Link File 9 in the sample
information table.
• The "Register the latest system check report after acquisition(VP ver.6.xx only)
When this check box is checked, the report of the system check executed immediately before
the real analysis is registered in link file 8 of the Agent data base.
[NOTE] When the system check is not done beforehand, it doesn't register in link file 8.

The system check report file is registered in the data base by the HTM L form type. When the
cell of the data registered in "Link file 8" is double-clicked with CLASS-Agent Manger, details
of the data can be displayed.
Double Click
Microsoft Internet Explorer starts when the cell of the data registered in "Link file 8" is
double-clicked with CLASS-Agent Manger, and the system check report of the HTM L form
type can be referred to.

3.5.6 Sample information

Specify how to register to databases three data items, “SPL.WT," “IS.WT” and “DFACT" output
from CLASS-VP.

For each of “SPL.WT (sample weight)”, “IS.WT (internal standard sample weight)” and
“DFACT (dilution factor)”, specify which field in the sample information table of a database

3.5.7 Compressed File Settings

When data is registered to a database, the data file can be compressed and saved to the database.
In the "Select compression files" pane, select the type of file to be compressed. The Automatic
Agent program names the compressed files with a unique filename, which will be registered to a
database. Compressed files can be decompressed at any time using Agent Manager. The
UnLHA32.dll is used for file compression. Therefore, compressed files can be viewed,
decompressed or re-compressed at any time using marketed LHA utilities programs.
For detailed information on specifications for compressed files, see “Appendix: Compressed
Files and Object Link Files.”

All checked files are compressed.
• The "Show compression progress bar" check box

If this check box is on, a dialog box is displayed, showing the progress meter for file
compression. The progress meter does not appear while the main screen is minimized to an
icon in the taskbar. For routine operations, turn off this check box to avoid having a progress
meter's dialog box being displayed when running other applications.
• The "Delete import files after data registration" check box

When checked, import files (“*.CDF” and “*.PDF”) are deleted after registration of data to a
database is completed. Data files (“*.DAT”), method files (“*.MET”) and schedule files
(“*.SEQ”) are not deleted.

3.5.8 Running an Application

Settings may be made to run a specified application and save a sample information file in text
format when data is registered to a database. The sample information file contains information
about the sample information table registered to the database, but it does not contain the data
specified in the sample information window. The following settings are useful especially when
using a custom application to perform certain operations. Care should be taken to make settings
for running an application, because the specified application starts running and a sample
information file is output each time measurement is performed. If this setting is not made
correctly, Windows operations may be hindered.

• The "Execute after database registration" check box

If this check box is on, the selected application runs, and a sample information file is output
when data is registered to a database. For routine operations, turn off this check box.

• The "Program file name" text box

In this text box, specify the name of the application. If an application name is entered directly
in the text box, the application name must be enclosed with double quotation marks (“ ”). Up to
10 command lines can be used. Each command must be separated by a space. Clicking the
[Browse] button opens a program selection dialog box, as shown below.

In this text box, specify the name of the destination folder to output a text-formatted sample
information file. The same dialog box as shown in “3.5.3 System Configuration Settings” is

An output file is named Vp60_TT2****.TXT. The asterisks (****) represent a number
between 0 and 9999. The number is reset to 0 when it exceeds 9999.

If checked, a sample information filename is added to a command line for the application to be
executed. This requires the application to be able to process a command line.

3.5.9 Linking a Database

This section describes how to link a database or remove the link. To make automatic entries,
create a database using Agent Manager, and link the database using the dialog box shown below.
[NOTE] • Linking a database is restricted to users having the database link permission in
Agent Manager or Automatic Agent.
• A database can only be created using Agent Manager. See the CLASS-Agent
Manager Software Instruction Manual for the procedure to create a database.
Linking a Database
Procedure (MDB database)
1) Choose [Tools] → [Link Database].
2) Click the [Add to list] button.
3) A window for selecting and linking a database is displayed.

name that was used when the database was created on the server by Agent Manager.

Enter an ID and a password, then click the [Check the connection] button.

Removing a Linked Database

Procedure
1) From a database list, select the linked database to be removed.
2) This button opens the "Delete" dialog box to delete selected databases from a list. Clicking
the [Cancel] button aborts the deletion.
A message box prompting for confirmation is displayed.
3) Ensure that the filename of the linked database to be deleted is correct, and click the [OK]
button. The linked database is removed from the database list.
[CAUTION] Removing a linked database currently listed in a database tree leaves an icon for
that database in the "Database Tree" pane. To remove the icon, log out and log
in again.

4 Manual Agent Program
4.1 Introduction
The Manual Agent Program is used to manually register analysis results obtained from
CLASS-VP analysis programs to a specified database. This program reads specified analysis
results and registers them to a database. The registered analysis data can be viewed, edited or
printed at any time using Agent Manager.
This program executes additional data processing when analysis data is registered to a database.
This program does the following:
a) Compresses files automatically, such as data files, method files, sample schedule, and AIA
files.
b) Creates an object link to AIA files.
Compressed files can be extracted using Agent Manager. They can be reregistered to a database
using this Manual Agent Program, after recalculation. In addition, the AIA file that an object
was linked to can be opened with Agent Manager.
[NOTE] Only CLASS-VP Ver6.xx corresponds to the CLASS-VP Agent manual registration.

3) Additional file number indicator

This indicates the number of compressed files added. For detailed information, see “4.9

This indicates the name of a currently selected database.

4.3 Logging In
A login is used to identify a user. The [Login] menu command is executed from "Logout" status.
The current user must log out before another user can log in.
Procedure
1) Click the [Login] button in the toolbar, or click the [Logout] menu command in the menu
bar. The "Login" dialog box is displayed.
2) Type a login ID and password.
3) Click the [OK] button.

A user can log in to the system if the login ID and password entered meet the following two
conditions.
a) The login ID and password entered match the ones registered to Agent Manager.
b) The Run Agent/GW permission has been granted to the user.
If these conditions are not met, another login attempt should be made from the beginning.
Clicking the [Cancel] button aborts a login attempt.
About User Permissions

The user permissions are assigned to each login ID in Agent Manager. The operations that a user
may perform depend on degrees of user permissions. The user permissions include the
following.
1) Run Agent/GW permission
“ON” A user can log in.
“OFF” A user cannot log in.
2) Property/Option permission
“ON” A user can use the "Configuration" and "Reentry List" dialog boxes.
“OFF” A user cannot use the "Configuration" and "Reentry List" dialog boxes.
3) Database Management permission

“ON” A user can use the [Add to list] and [Delete from list] buttons in the "Select
Database" dialog box.
“OFF” A user cannot use the [Add to list] and [Delete from list] buttons in the "Select
Database" dialog box.

4.4 Logging Out

A logout exits the "Login" state.
The [Logout] menu command is executed from login status.
Procedure
Click the [Logout] button in the toolbar, or click the [Logout] menu command in the menu bar.

The "Select Database" dialog box is used to select a database, add it to a list or delete it from the
list. The use of the [Add to list] and [Delete from list] buttons requires the Database
Management permission.

currently selected file or a user who is currently logged in.

4.8 Registering to a Database

Analysis data contained in a file selected in the "File List" pane is registered to a database.
Functions

Analysis data in a file is stored as “new” data in a database.
2) [Reentry...]
Analysis data in a file decompressed by Agent Manager is stored in a database. A database
can be updated in any of the following two ways:
Register analysis data as “new” data without disturbing old data stored in database.
Register analysis data as “overwritten” data by deleting old data from a database.
[NOTE] • For a database update, select a database that contains original data.
• Pressing the [ESC] key during a database registration will abort the database
registration.

1) Select the database where analysis data is to be stored. See “4.5 Selecting a Database” for the
procedure for selecting a database.
2) Select the analysis data to be registered. See “4.2 Main Screen” for the procedure for
selecting a file.

4.9 Adding or Deleting Compression Files

To compress files other than those specified in “4.16.2 Compressed File Settings,” specify the
files in the "Add Compression Files" dialog box.

"Add compression files list" section.

be cleared each time analysis data is stored in a database.

2) Specify files to be added or deleted.
3) Clicking the [OK] button adds or deletes the selected files, returning to the main screen.
Clicking the [Cancel] button aborts the addition or deletion. Clicking the [Help] button
opens a help file.

The "Add File" dialog box is used to specify the files to be compressed.

The files in the "Add compression files list" section are selected and deleted using this

1) Specify the file to be deleted from the "Add compression files list" section.
2) Click the [Delete] button. The selected file is deleted from a listing in the "Add compression
files list" section.
[NOTE] Once deleted, files cannot be added to archive files the next time analysis data is
stored in a database.

This section describes how to use the wizard to store analysis data in a database after selecting an
analysis data file in the "Select File" dialog box.

If on, an automatic logging in attempt is not made at a boot-up. The "Login" dialog box
displays the user ID entered at the last login.
b) The "Auto login" radio button
If on, an automatic logging in attempt is made at a boot-up. If you check this radio
button, you need to specify a login ID and password. The login ID and password must
match the ones registered to Agent Manager.
Procedure
1) Click "Configuration" in the left-hand pane of the "Configuration" dialog box. The
"Configuration" section is displayed in the right-hand pane.
2) Select the desired setting options.

is stored in a database.

This check box specifies whether to start an application automatically after storing data in a
database (to send e-mail, or print operation results, etc.).
ON An application will automatically start. If checked, specify the name of the applica-
tion to be to started, the name of the output folder where the sample information file
will be stored and set the "Add a sample information file name in the command line"
check box as described below.
OFF An application will not automatically start.
2) The "Add a sample information file name in the command line" check box
If the name of a sample information file is written after the end of a command line, the
sample information file is registered to an application that will automatically start.
ON The name of a sample information file is added to the end of a command line.
OFF The name of a sample information file is not added to the end of a command line.

In analysis (or reanalysis) of three-dimensional data, if the maximum plot channel of the
spectrum does not have to be registered in a database, set this check box to ON.

In analysis (or reanalysis) of three-dimensional data, if the current plot channel of the spectrum
does not have to be registered in a database, set this check box to ON and Select detector name.
• The "Register Acrobat file (*.PDF) to LinkFile10 field" check box

Set this check box to ON to register a PDF document file, output from the CLASS-VP, to a
database. The PDF document file is registered as an object file in the Link File 10 in the sample
information table. Click the [Browse] button to display the folder selection screen, then select
a folder to which the PDF file is output from CLASS-VP.
Enter the delay time required until CLASS-VP outputs a PDF file after it has finished analysis
or reanalysis to the "Wait time to monitor PDF report output" list box.

Set this check box ON to register a CLASS-VP data file to the database.
The CLASS-VP data file is registered as an object file in the Link File 9 in the sample

4.17 Editing a Reentry List

The [Edit Reentry List] command is used to delete unwanted items from a Reentry List.

When running the CLASS-VP Automatic Agent program, analysis data is stored in a database,
and files are compressed and saved in LHA format. The files created include analysis data files
(*.DAT), method files (*.MET), schedule files (*.SEQ), document files (*.PDF), and Andi
(AIA) files (*.CDF). The Andi files (*.CDF) and document files (*.PDF) are treated as object
link files. They are stored in the same folder. Their filenames are changed to the same filenames
assigned to compressed files. Their extensions are changed to the .CDF extension. These
filenames are controlled using databases. The files can be viewed or decompressed at any time
by Agent Manager.
The following describes the names of storage folders and filename syntax.
Storage Folder - For an SQL or Oracle database

Compressed LHA format data and object link files are stored in a binary image field in the
database. The file name information in the sample information table is automatically defined
under the following conditions.
Filename = Computer name + Instrument number + Storage date + Serial number + “.LZH”
For an MSDE database, only 2GB may be stored.
Storage Folder - For an MDB database

For an MDB-format database, the data is stored as a file rather than a binary image field.
A folder having the database name (minus the extension) is created in the same folder as the
database. Compressed files are stored in this folder.

A.2 Contents of a Database

There are five database tables: the sample information table, data information table, data log
information table, file information table and environment setting table. For single analysis data,
a single record is added to a sample information table, while records of all peak information at
all channels are added to a data information table. These two tables index the database on
registration dates, workstation names and instrument names, so that these two tables are
relationally linked. If a single item of sample information is selected in Agent Manager, multiple
lines of data are displayed.

A.3 Temporary Database

A temporary database is used to store data when the data cannot be stored in a specified database
for some reason. Its filename is TEMP_DT2.MDB, a Microsoft Access 97 type database. It is
created and stored in the setup folder during installation. Compressed files and object link files
are created in the temporary database using the same conditions as they would if properly
registered. For detailed information, see Database Information. Data contained in the temporary
database can be restored by Agent Manager. For data restoration, see the Agent Manager
Instruction Manual.

A.4 Log Database

A log database is used to store logs of operations performed by each user. It contains information
on user names and dates and times, descriptions of operations performed. The log information is
classified into two types, the data log accompanied by data and the system log (Log2.mdb)
storing logs related to the system.
Usually, two log databases, “Log2.mdb” and “Temp log2.mdb”, are automatically created in
Microsoft Access format in the folder specified during installation. If a common network system
is used, only “Log2.mdb” is created in the common folder. These databases can be used in all
types of Agent programs (Auto Agent, Manual Agent and Agent Manager).
If the system is in normal status, logs are stored in “Log2.mdb." However, if the log information
cannot be stored in “Log2.mdb” due to errors in the network, the log information is stored in a
spare log database “Temp log2.mdb.”
Structure of Log Databases (LOG2.MDB / TEMP_LOG2.MDB)

The system log database consists of one table shown below that contains one log item per record.
The data log storing processes related to data is contained in the database storing the sample
information. The table structure is similar to that shown below.

A.5 User Permissions

User permissions are used to identify users, and restrict the operations that users may perform.
The Automatic Agent/Manual Agent Program recognizes the following permissions granted to
users.
• Run Agent/GW Permission

This permission allows an authorized user to register analysis data in a database. A user not
having this permission cannot log in to the Automatic Agent Program, and may not perform
any operations.
• Option/Configuration Permission
This permission allows an authorized user to make changes to the settings of the Automatic
Agent Program. A user not having this permission cannot use a menu of lists, but can register
data on a database at a given setting.
• Database Management Permission

This permission allows an authorized user to make changes to the settings for database
management: whether to allow or disallow use of databases. If a user not having this
permission logs in to the system, the [ADD] and [Delete] buttons in the "Select Database"
dialog box are disabled, preventing the addition or deletion of a database.

A.6 AIA-format Data (Andi-format Data)

• Input/output of AIA-format data is processed by the library, NetCDF, developed by Unicode
data Program Center, USA. Do not use characters other than alphanumeric characters for a
filename, otherwise proper operations may be hindered. The library called NetCDF can be
obtained from the Internet address at http://www.unidata.ucar.edu.
Japanese characters may not be converted correctly in the information (on element names,
etc.) saved in data files.
• When a CLASS-VP-format data file is converted to an AIA-format file, the data converted
may become less precise due to the differences in data type. If other application's data is
analyzed using CLASS-VP, small differences in results may arise due to a lack of data
precision and the differences between the methods of processing waveforms. If
CLASS-VP-format data is converted to AIA format then back to CLASS-VP format, the
results do not completely match because the converted data is less precise.

for the Automatic Agent/Manual Agent programs. This program makes it much easier to
perform print jobs.
This program is an external application designed for printing registered information on a default
printer when data is registered to a database using the automatic entry or manual entry features
provided by the CLASS-Agent software. This program can run on a personal computer that
supports the Automatic Agent/Manual Agent programs of CLASS-Agent software. This
program cannot be used on a client PC used for other management/analysis.
B.1.1 Making Initial Settings

Make the necessary initial settings to use the Agent Automatic Print program. Use Windows
Explorer to start the “Agent_pr2.exe” program file from the CLASS-Agent installation directory.
After that program starts, a dialog box is displayed, as shown below. In the dialog box, make the
settings for print jobs. These setting items are saved to the file named Agent_pr2.ini, which in
turn will be used when the Agent Automatic Print program is started during automatic or manual
entry. To make changes to the print settings, follow the same procedure as for making initial
settings.

To check whether a print job can be successfully completed, prepare a test sample information

In these steps, the test sample information file is created. Start the “Agent_pr2.exe” program
from the CLASS-Agent installation directory using Windows Explorer. After the program starts,
a dialog box is displayed, as shown below. In the dialog box, specify the test sample information
file and click the [Print] button to start printing. Registered information is printed on the default
printer specified on the personal computer. Paper size and print orientation are determined by
the properties settings for the default printer.

In this example, the Agent Automatic Print program will start each time automatic or manual
entries are made, and will print registered information. The exported sample information file is

B.2 The Agent Mail Carrier Program

This section describes how to send e-mail using the Agent Mail Carrier program, an external
application for the Automatic Agent/Manual Agent programs. This program makes it much
easier to send e-mail.
This program is an external application designed for addressing and sending e-mail to the default
receivers specified when data is registered to a database using the automatic Agent features or
manual Agent features provided by the CLASS-Agent software. This program can run on a
personal computer that supports the Automatic Agent/Manual Agent programs of
CLASS-Agent software. This program cannot be used on a client PC used for other
management/analysis.
B.2.1 Making Initial Settings

To use the Agent Mail Carrier program, initial settings must be made. Start the “Agent_ml2.exe”
program from the CLASS-Agent installation directory using Windows Explorer. After the
program starts, a dialog box is displayed, as shown below. In the dialog box, make the settings
for essential items, such as mail server information, e-mail information, and receiver’s address
information. These settings are saved to the file named Agent_ml2.ini that in turn will be used
when the Agent Mail Carrier program is started during the automatic or manual Agent process.
To make a change to the initial settings, follow the same procedure as for making initial settings.

To address e-mail:
(1) "Subject" Type a subject. .......................... Essential setting item
(2) "To" Type a receiver's address. ......... Essential setting item
(3) "Cc" Type receivers' addresses to send a copy.
............................................... Optional setting item
(4) "Bcc" Type receivers' addresses to send a copy, with their addresses hidden to
other receivers.
............................................... Optional setting item
(5) "From" Type a sender's address............. Essential setting item
(6) "Full Name" Type a sender's name. ............... Optional setting item
[NOTE] Specify these essential setting items. If these settings are not correct or available,
e-mail cannot be sent properly.

Setting Option Information

Click the [Option] button in the "Agent mail carrier" dialog box. The "Option" dialog box is
displayed, as shown below. Make settings for mail server connection information, the body of an
e-mail message and a method of attaching data information (sample information file).
(1) The "Account" tab (for server connection information) .................. Essential setting items
"Server Name" Type a SMTP mail server name or IP address.
"Domain Address" Type a sender's domain name.
"Port No" Type a port number of the SMTP port for mail server.
By default, the port number is 25. No change is normally required.
(2) The "Text" tab (for e-mail body information).................................. Optional setting items
In the "Body" pane, type the body of an e-mail message. No carriage return can be specified.

(3) The "Data" tab (for attached sample-information files)................... Optional setting items
a) The "Export information append" check box

Turn on this check box to attach sample information to an e-mail message.
b) The "Append to body text" radio button
If on, sample information is attached to the body of an e-mail message.
c) The "Append to attachment file" radio button
If on, sample information file is attached as an attached file.
d) The "Delete a export file by the send complete" check box
Specify this to delete the export file after a sample information file is transmitted.

B.2.2 Checking the Connection to Mail Server and the Test E-Mail
This section describes how to check that initial settings such as receiver's address and sender's
address, and Option settings are correct. When making a check, Click the [Connect] and [Send]
buttons to check whether an error occurs.
(1) To check the connection to mail server:

Click the [Connect] button and check the status bar. If an error message does not appear in
the status bar, with the [Send] button enabled, everything is normal. If an error code “101” is
displayed in the status bar, the connection has previously been made.

(2) To check the test e-mail:

Click the [Send] button and check the status bar. If the message “Mail Send OK” is
displayed in the status bar, everything is normal. If any other error code is displayed in the
status bar, check the receiver's address and sender's address. For detailed information on

B.2.3 Using an External Application to Send E-Mail

This section describes how to send processed information by e-mail each time the information is
registered to a database by the Automatic Agent/Manual Agent programs. To send e-mail, make
the following settings in the "Execute application" pane.
(1) Turn on the "Execute at the time of the database registration" check box.
(2) In the "Application name" text box, type the full path to the Agent Mail Carrier program
“Agent_ml2.exe."
(3) In the "Output Folder of the sample information file" text box, specify an output folder.
(4) Turn on the "Add a sample information filename in the command line at the time of
execution" check box.
In this example, the Agent Mail Carrier program will start each time automatic or manual entries
are made, and will send registered information by e-mail. The exported sample information file
is automatically deleted after an e-mail message is successfully sent.
