Introduction:-

Richness of a country and it’s wealth status is always judges or know

on compositions (steel) in proper conditions, etc. India has a very large

population. But other countries like Japan, Germany and USA are pioneers in

steel making. Earlier, India was flourishing in trade and commerce. But

the entrance of East India company changed the whole scenario. The British

started exploiting the Indian resources. They made their market for finished

goods in India. Then came the Industrial revolution and the industries started

prospering again. Then in 1992, came the law that multi-nationals can come

and set up their industries, the whole scenario changed, more stress on quality

and accuracy was given than the quantity. Thus came the need for the SPM as

GPM could not live up to the expectations of the customers.

In engineering, many processes are required and different

parts require different processes. But the properties of materials and other

things changes with the processes.

Due to the entrance of the multinational companies this

caused to increased demand special purpose machine and use of scientific

techniques to compete with the national companies. This caused the invention

of automated machines and mechanisms “ COFFEE MAKING MACHINE ”. It

COFFEE MAKING MACHINE

is a light duty special purpose machine used for INDEXING the liquid and

slurry automatically as per the requirement of the container.

Principle:-
It works on the principle that, the reduced speed is energized to

Rotate the driving plate and when the rod mounted on the driving plate

Come in Contac t with the slot of the Geneva wheel, the wheel also rotate through

a Particular angle.

Operating procedure :

When we start the motor rotational speed is fed to the cam plate or driving

plate through the speed reducing devices. For reducing the speed, speed

reduction gear box, pulley and belt arrangement, bevel gears are used. When

the Geneva plate rotates and the rod mounted on driving plate is come in

contact with the slot of Geneva wheel, the wheel also rotate through a

particular angle and then the back side of the driving plate is meshed with the

dwell slot. At that time, Geneva wheel remains stationary. The time taken for

this meshing is used to fill the hot milk ,liquid coffee & liquid suger in the glass.

As the Geneva wheel rotates, the plate on which the bottles are kept also rotates

and the liquid starts to flow down from the tank.

Then again the rod of the driving plate comes in contact with the slot of the

Geneva plate wheel. The next empty bottle or glass comes underneath the top

of the tank. This cycle will on till the motor is ‘ON’ Thus we get the

intermittent motion by using this Geneva mechanism.

The proper selection of material for the different part of a machine is the

main objective in the fabrication of machine. For a design engineer it is must that

he be familiar with the effect which the manufacturing process and heat treatment

have on the properties of materials. The Choice of material for engineering

purposes depends upon the following factors:

 Availability of the materials.

 Suitability of materials for the working condition in service.

 The cost of materials.

 Physical and chemical properties of material.

 Mechanical properties of material.

The mechanical properties of the metals are those which are associated with the

ability of the material to resist mechanical forces and load. We shall now discuss

these properties as follows:

Physical properties:-

These properties are co lour, shape, density, thermal conductivity,

electrical conductivity, melting point etc.

Mechanical properties:-

The properties are associated with the ability of the material to resist the

mechanical forces and load. The various properties are:-

COFFEE MAKING MACHINE

i) Strength:- It is the property of material due to which it can resist

external forces without breaking or yielding.

ii) Stiffness :- It is the ability of material to withstand the deformation

under stress.

iii) Ductility:- It is the property of material due to which it can be drawn

into wires under a tensile load.

iv) Malleability:-It is the property of material which enables it to be

rolled in to sheets.

v) Brittleness:- It is the property of material due to which it breaks into

pieces with little deformation.

vi) Hardness :- It is the property of material to resist wear, deformation

and the ability to cut another material.

vii) Resilence :-It is the ability of the material to store energy and resist

the shock and impact loads.

viii) Creep :- It is the slow and permanent deformation induced in a

part subjected to a constant stress at high temperature.

COFFEE MAKING MACHINE

We have selected the material considering the above factors and

also as per the availability of the material. The materials which covers
most of the above properties are :-

1) MILD STEEL :- Composition :- Carbon→ 0.20 % - 0.30%

Manganese→ 0.30% - o.60%

Properties :- Tensile strength 44.54 kgf/mm²

Yield stress - 28 kgf/mm²

Hardness -170 BHN

Uses :- General purpose steels for low stressed components.

2) BEARING METALS :- They may be classified into:

I) Copper base bearing metals.

II) Tin base bearing metals

III) Lead base bearing metals.

IV) Cadmium base bearing metals.

COFFEE MAKING MACHINE

Copper has metals are used for application of heavier Pressures.

Tin base, lead base and cadmium base metal are also known as white metal

alloys. Tin base metals are used for application of high pressure and loan. Lead

base metals are used for light loads and pressure.

Cadmium base metals have more compressive strength as compared to the base

metals used for elevated temperature.

The application of cast iron & steel may be specified as follows:

1. Steel should be preferred for simple heavily loaded structure which are to

be manufactured in small numbers; this is due to the factor that in lightly

loaded structures the higher mechanical properties of steel cannot be fully

exploited.

2. Cast iron should be preferred for complex structures subjected to normal

loading. When these structures are to be made in large numbers.

3. Lately, combined welded and cast structures are becoming popular. They

are generally used where a steel structure is economically suitable but is

COFFEE MAKING MACHINE

difficult to manufacture wing to the complexity of some portions; these

complex portions are separately cast & welded to the main structures. An

example is that of cast bearing housings that are welded into the feed box.

The modules of elasticity of the measure of stiffness.

METAL AND ALLOYS USED FOR COFFEE MAKING MACHINE

To manufacture parts by pressuring a wide verity of metals and

nonmetallic materials are used. These materials arrives at press shop in the form

of sheet strips, benches and bars. Regular carbon steel is used to manufacture

minor parts, domestic articles and the like quality carbon steel is employed for

press working parts with critical and surface finishing required the nonferrous

metals which have found wide applications in press working are aluminium,

copper, nickel, magnesium, titanium and their alloys.

• These required greasing the sliding parts.

• The pins are to be replaced if worn out.

• The solenoid valve required to be replaced if it gets damaged.

• The limit switch is required to be replaced being periodically used.

• It is required to colour the equipment periodically.

• Screws should be replaced periodically.

• The broken strips or the linkages should be welded or replaced as per the

• requirement in worn out condition.

• The container or liquid tank should be cleaned periodically.

• The bearings are to be replaced periodically.

• The belt tension is to be adjusted.

• Pipes should be checked periodically for any leakage.

Advantages :

Following are the various advantages to make our key way

machine the popular one:

1) It require less power for it’s opertion.

2) It is convenient to convey it from one place to the another place, due to its

compact size and being installed on the single frame.

3) It is easy for the maintenance.

4) It requires very less skill for it’s operation.

5) It is multipurpose can be used for different liquids.

APPLICATION

Our project being the special purpose equipment, specially meant for

having luxurious facility for serving liquid to the users. Our country being ‘hot

weather’ country peoples are always looking for the cold drink. In such a crowded

place, it becomes very difficult for a single man to serve the cold drink to ample

quantity of peoples. This machine is very helpful for such applications.

Apart from this it is based on the Geneva technology, it can be used for different

intermittent motion works. The general type of intermittent gearing is known as

Geneva wheel, because of the similarities to the well known Geneva stop used to

prevent the over-winding of the springs in watches, music boxes. Etc.

Geneva wheel is frequently used on machine tool for indexing for rotating some

part of the machine through a fractional part of revolution.

Uses :-

1) It is used for assembling process in electric bulb, electric motors parts.

2) Used for material handling using a belt conveyor in milk industry for

supplying and INDEXING milk in the bottle.

3) It is used in medicine industry for INDEXING bottles.

4) It is used in single lever system of a milling machine feed box.

5) Used in relation with the cam shaft in automatic machines.

In some machine it is required that to relative motion between the cutting tool and

work piece should became periodically. This requirement is generally essential in

1) Machine tool with the reciprocating primary motion e.g. shaping machine

in which the work-piece must be feed intermittently with the tool.

2) Machine tool with the reciprocating feed motion e.g. Grinding machine in

which the work-piece must be feed intermittently after each half or full stroke

of the reciprocating table.

FUTURE SCOPE

Since old age man is always trying to gain more and more luxurious. Man is

always trying to develop more and more modified technique with increasing the

aesthetic look and economic consideration. Hence there is always more and more

scope towards whatever he might have created of course after having the experie-

nce of the presently manufactured things. But being the diploma Engineers and

having the ability to think and plan. But due to some time constrains, and also due

to lack of funds, we only have thought and put in the report the following future

modifications:-

1) The container of the liquid can be made surrounded by evaporator coil of

the refrigeration system to make our machine a cold drink serving machine.

2) The container of the liquid can be made surrounded by heater coil of the

electrical excitation system to make our machine a hot drink serving machine.

3) It can be installed with the light sensor below the tap of the liquid, so that

whenever the light ray is interrupted due to placing of the glass the solenoid

will become ON for the pre-set time duration only then automatically will

become OFF.

4) The place where there is scare city of the electricity the electric motor is

replaced by an I.C.Engine.

5) We can install the special indexing mechanism on the work piece table to

rotate a particular job through a particular angular.

Thus in future there are so many modifications, which we can make to survive

the huge global world of competition.
