Executive Summary 1
Enterprise Trust & Development Company Limited (ETDC), a sustainable development organization,
presents the International Student Finance Conference 2011 (ISF Conference), a unique, the first-of-its-
kind event in Nigeria under the theme: “Expanding Access to Finance for All Students in Tertiary
Education.” The conference seeks to become a foremost Africa event pursuing the cause of providing
student financial services and financing students through the complex array of grants, loans and other
instruments, especially for the indigent ones
Authoritative statistics show that Nigeria presently suffers a shortfall of over 2 million tertiary level
students required to compete globally as an emerging economy and realize Vision 20: 2020. In the face of
the projected massive worldwide expansion in private education and the global economic crises, eight
million of its youths are unable to gain access to tertiary education thereby making student finance a
compelling need

To address these challenges, the conference has been scheduled to hold in October, 2011 in Lagos
The main objectives of the conference are to promote the building of the critical mass of tertiary education
enrolled and successful students required to drive Nigeria’s global competitiveness and stimulate capacity
expansion in the private higher education segment to complement the efforts of governments. In pursuit
of these objectives, the conference will seek to promote collaboration between government, social
enterprises, financial institutions and corporate Nigeria to connect eligible students to finance, expand
access to tertiary education and build the higher level human capital infrastructure for Nigeria’s march
towards Vision 20: 2020

Conference Scholarships Competition and the sessions on “Half A Century of Student Financing in

former Honourable Minister of Information and Communications. The expected media coverage and
conference configuration present prospective donors advantages to enhance brand appeal, reach out to
prime stakeholders, demonstrate commitment to our youths and showcase the best of corporate
citizenship in student finance and human capital development, among other benefits enumerated later in
this proposal.

The conference will bring together a rich, diverse and multi-disciplinary audience of about 350 – 500
