CONVERSATION 101
Thanks for checking out my conversation skills video on YouTube and requesting this special report.
So, you learned some useful conversation skills in the video. Now, this special report brings you TEN
This seems self-evident, but before we talk about specific conversation tactics, you need to
internalize bringing more energy and emotion to your conversations. Nobody likes to converse with
someone that is unenthusiastic and low energy, so amp up the energy and don't be "flat" when you
converse. Believe it or not, having the right energy and emotion, i.e. the delivery, when you speak is
You don't need to go crazy with this, but make sure you are conversing with at least a minimal
amount of good vibes and energy. People will catch your vibe faster than hearing what you say!
What I mean by this is minimize the habit of saying reflexive things or the obvious thing in any given

situation. Instead, you want to BUILD THE HABIT of looking past the obvious thing to say, so that
you can bring much more interest to your conversations. In particular, stop saying the OBVIOUS
thing in COMMON situations (such as salutations (hi/bye) and common questions like "How are you?"
"What do you do?"). To start, try mixing the obvious with the UNEXPECTED.
To give you an example, when Hank Moody of the TV show "Californication" is asked what he does,
he answers: "I'm a writer. Books, novels, and the occasional haiku". It is this unexpected third item
that isn't obvious and brings much more interest to a mundane question and mundane answer.
3. CONVERSATION RULES
Remember these rules: Don't beat one conversation topic to death. Instead, work to change topcis
fairly frequently. A good conversation takes on an almost random nature and has many
conversation topics and threads. Once you have a good conversation going, don't let the
conversation drag on forever. It's best to leave people wanting more, so be the first to end it.
If you struggle with coming up with conversation topics, check out how you can generate endless

conversation topics using a simple "tool" in this video I created: http://bit.ly/ W g CY

A lot of people ask me to give them interesting conversation topics so they can have interesting
conversations.
Ironically, it is not really the topics that make a conversation interesting. Instead of worrying about
having INTERESTING TOPICS to talk about, you should be thinking about how to talk about
ANYTHING, even mundane things, in an INTERESTING way. Being able to do that is jedi master level
stuff, my friend.
As an exercise, think about how you can talk about paint drying in an interesting way. Drop me an
6. START STORYTELLING
A lot of good conversation is made up of storytelling. If storytelling is not something you normally
do a lot of, you definitely need to work on incorporating it into your conversational toolbelt.
Storytelling is a large subject, but here are a few basic pointers about storytelling:

-Its not merely the story itself that is interesting. HOW you tell a story is very key.
-Bring human drama into the equation, i.e. find the drama within a story and emphasize that part of it.
-Don't just jump straight into the action of a story. Make sure you set the SCENE of the story first.
People don't want to just hear what happened. You need to create the context for the rest of your
story.
-Make sure you spend time writing down stories about things that have happened to you in your life
7. MINIMIZE QUESTIONS
I know that Dale Carnegie wrote that you need to be interested in other people if you want to make
friends. This is true to a certain extent, but I think a lot of people have interpreted this advice to
mean peppering people with questions. They turn every interaction with another person into a game
of twenty questions. Trust me, you are not being a good conversationalist if all you do is ask the
Instead of asking one question after another, focus on making statements, storytelling, and

You don't have to go crazy with minimizing questions, but try to limit questions to less than 20 25
- %
of the time you are conversing with someone. If you find yourself going above 50 %, you have to cut
back.
8. METAPHORS
Using metaphors to describe ordinary things in your conversation is THE BEST WAY to talk about
something in an interesting way. This is the one tip to learn and implement if you don't learn
Example: Instead of saying something was "boring", you can say "It was as riveting as boiled chicken
I know I gave you a tool to come up with endless conversation topics from a "seed topic". But, how
do you come up with an initial talking point? Use an anagram for topics that you LOVE to talk about.
Here's an example of an anagram: FAT CAT, i.e. food + annoying people. + TV shows + cameras +
ayahuasca + travel . When there is no obvious seed topic, just go back to your default tool. Come up

I know I told you to minimize questions earlier in this report, but questions are also inevitable as they
are a valid way for you to learn about someone and show interest in them.
When you do ask questions, however, don't ask questions that can be answered with a simple Yes
or No. Instead ask "open ended" questions which require someone to elaborate when they answer.
These types of questions will allow the conversation to bloom into a number of different threads,
whereas Yes/No questions have the opposite effect and make the conversation wilt.
The other time it makes sense to ask questions is to transition topics. Example: "By the way, have
you ever been to X restaurant?" Then, you are onto a new topic!
