Students are given a warm up by giving them questions regarding inviting
someone to a party
Informing the learners of the learning objective.
Informing the learner of prerequisite skills; making invitation, accepting
invitation, and declining invitation.
1. Observing
The students watch a video about invitng someone to a party (see appendix),
and they are asked to pay much attention on any expression used in making
invitation.
2. Questioning
Guided by teacher, the students are encouraged to construct any questions
dealing with the generic structure, the language features, the social function of
invitation.
Guided by the teacher, the students formulate any questions about how to make
an invitation, and the responses in accepting or declining.
3. Exploring/Experimenting
In pairs, the students find any information in relation to making invitation from
watching video about inviting someone to a party.
The students complete the sentences about inviting someone to a party with
appropriate words by filling the blank spaces.
4. Associating
The students find any expression commonly used in inviting someone to a
party from the teacher’s explanation
In pairs, the students construct a dialogue based on the information stated in the
card which is chosen by the representative student of each pair.
The students practice the dialogue constructed based on the information in the
card with their partner.
5. Communicating
In pairs, the students perform the dialogue constructed based on the
information stated in the card in front of the class.

APPENDIX 1: LEARNING MATERIALS
A. Social Function: It is used to invite someone to come, to invite people to join, to ask
someone to attend, and to ask people to take part in an occasion.
B. Generic structure: I would like to invite you to…, would you like to come to…, would you
be interested in coming to… this Saturday?, etc.
C. Language Features.
- Grammar : modals (will, would, can)
- Vocabulary : name of days, tomorrow, tonight, next week, birthday, graduation,
farewell, etc.
- Verb : invite, come, join, etc.
- Pronunciation : stress and intonation
