Culture is defined as the collection of beliefs, attitudes, ideas, behaviors, and social output.

Everything has a distinctive meaning depending on your cultural experience.

Some of the most basic illustrations are in critical communication - spoken and nonverbal
communication such as hand gestures and facial expressions all have distinct meanings.

Some of them are completely opposite to one another.

I am half Ilocana and half bisaya living in Isabela.

One example is the word ILABAY,

In Ilocano, it means to mix or to put together.

While in bisaya, it means to throw.

Another word is HUBOG

In Ilocano it means shape or figure while in bisaya it means drunk.00

Language semantics has a significant influence on how individuals see the world. It really
generates what is known as a cultural prism, which shapes our brain's sense of reality.

Another is when we use the word bank in the west, most people will believe we're referring to
a financial organization. However, in South-East Asia, the same term has a distinct connotation.
For us, the word bank is more likely to be translated as a river bank than a financial
organization...

In other words, the reality we live in becomes a reflection of our worldview.

So hopefully won’t be as shocked to hear ‘Kadyot lang! Nag libog ko kung asa nako gibutang!’
when you find yourself in the Visayan region.
