GENERAL SURVEYING 1
LABORATORY EXERCISE NO. 3

HORIZONTAL POSITION BY TRIANGULATION AND TRILATERATION

A. Given the quadrilateral ABCD in the accompanying figure. Assume that the observed interior angles have already
been subjected to station and figure adjustment. If all triangulation stations were occupied and all lines observed in
both directions, determine the following: (50 Points)
Given:
AB = 2000.80 m (Length of Baseline)
Angle CAD= 40 O
C D
Angle BAD= 37 O
Angle ABC= 43 O
Angle CBD= 47 O
Angle ADB= 53 O
Angle ADC= 36 O
Angle BCD= 44 O B
A
O
Angle ACB= 60

Problem:
1. Strength of Figure factor
2. Distance angles and the equations for determining the length of CD by different routes
3. Strength of Figure for each chain of triangles
4. Length of the check base CD using the strongest route
B. In the accompanying figure, the lengths of the sides of triangle ABC as measured with an EDM instrument, are AB =
980.345 m, BC = 678.540 m, and CA = 900.00 m. The azimuth from north of the side CB is 168 O30’15” and the
coordinates of station B are Xb = 10500.005 m and Yb = 10510.006 m. Assuming that the given lengths are free from
systematic errors, determine the following preliminary data which are to be used in subsequent adjustment by
trilateration. (50 Points)
Solve for:
1. Interior angles of the figure.
2. Azimuth from South of sides Ab and CA.
3. Coordinates for points A and C.
