7.4 - Professional reflection and learning to improve practices
In my own perspective, as an educator we should not let
ourselves stay in our comfort zone, rather always seek for higher learning, acquire new skills and knowledge for you to cope up with the sudden changes in our educational landscape. As we all know, the only permanent thing in this world is CHANGE. Just like what happened in our educational system at present, obviously we experienced an abrupt paradigm shift. It shifted from the old normal to the latest trend that we called a “new normal”. Honestly, the emergence of Covid-19 pandemic gave us so many realizations, especially in the educational community. Some teachers are hesitant to teach in the new normal because they are not used to this new learning platform. The bottom line is they are probably afraid to try something new. With this, I would say that professional development is really vital to our profession, as teachers. Improving oneself by engaging in any professional organizations that would boost your morale, attending training, seminars and workshops and other activities related to professional growth will really help you to become a competent and proficient educator. Since education is said to be dynamic, constantly upgrading and evolving, the need to pursue higher studies somehow should be taken into consideration. The teachers should find a way to learn something new, it may be teaching strategies, curriculum and even in the context of personal development. In this manner, we are truly helping ourselves to become better in the field of teaching. Also, this could be a way of empowering ourselves that no matter what happens we will be able to adjust to some changes that may possibly arise in our educational system.
