ASSIGNMENT GUIDELINES (50%)

CURRICULUM IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION

This assignment requires you to gain a working understanding of how to design


integrated curriculum with diverse student populations in mind in order to
provide the optimal conditions for successful teaching and learning experiences.
The primary goal is to develop useful lesson plans and teaching materials that
will help you prepare for the long practicum. The component of this assignment
includes the following:

1) Lesson Plan Preparation (20%)

a. Plan and prepare a single lesson on a topic of your choosing.


b. Ensure you have accounted for everything required to teach the lessons,
including websites and handouts that may be in electronic format.
c. Copies of materials to be used are helpful visuals for understanding your
intent with your lessons.
d. A careful listing of what you would use and when in the lessons, with
enough detail that a reader could ‘make their own’ as needed and teach
your lessons successfully, meets the expectations for the assignment.
e. Essential Elements to include in your Lesson:
i. Lesson Topic – Specific minimum 3 PLOs to be addressed
ii. Assumed prior knowledge
iii. Objectives of the lesson
iv. List of Resources/Materials
v. Assessment Plan
vi. Sequence of tasks
vii. Follow-up: Homework: specify details and purpose; assign if
appropriate.
2) Microteaching Presentation (30%)

a. Prepare and deliver a short (30 minute) lesson that might be part of an
actual class you would be teaching, using some of the techniques you will
learn during this course.

b. Record your 30 minutes of teaching.

c. The microteaching should be based on the lesson plan you have prepared.

d. Include Set Induction, Pre and Post Reading and finally conclusion or
Recap stage.
