Little Jack Horner

~Anon

Little Jack Horner

Sat in the corner, The Day Before Christmas
Eating of Christmas pie: ~Anon
He put in his thumb,
And pulled out a plum, We have been helping with the cake,
And said, "What a good boy am I!" And licking out the pan,
And wrapping up our packages,
As neatly as we can.
We have hung our stockings up,
Beside the open grate.
And now there's nothing more to do,
Except
To
Wait.

I'm a Little Snowman

~Anon
I'm a little Snowman
I'm a little snowman round and fat, ~Anon
Here are my mittens,
Here is my hat. I'm a little snowman short and fat,
Add a little scarf and a carrot nose, Here is my scarf and here is my hat.
I stand so tall when the cold wind blows. When I see the snowfall,
Hear me shout
"All you children please come out!"

I've Been Waiting for Christmas

~Anon

I've been waiting for Christmas,

A Chubby Snowman And it's almost here.
~Anon I've been waiting for Christmas,
Santa's getting near.
A chubby little snowman
had a carrot nose. Can't you hear the sleigh bells ringing?
Along came a bunny, Reindeer up so high.
and what do you suppose? Can't you hear the children singing,
As they watch the sky?
That hungry little bunny,
looking for some lunch,
Grabbed that snowman's nose,
Nibble, nibble, crunch! The Funniest Face
The funniest face Once there was a snowman,
looked out at me Who stood outside the door,
From a silver ball He wished that he could come inside,
On the Christmas Tree! And run about the floor.
He wished that he could warm himself,
At first I thought Beside the fire, so red,
It was Santa's elf,  He wished that he could climb
But I looked again and Upon the big white bed.
It was just myself!
So he called to the North Wind,
"Come and help me, pray,
Christmas Is Coming
For I'm completely frozen,
Standing here all day."
Christmas is coming,
So the North Wind came along,
the geese are getting fat, And blew him in the door,
Please to put a penny in an old man's hat;
And now there nothing left,
If you haven't got a penny a ha'penny will do, But a puddle on the floor!
If you haven't got a ha'penny, God bless you.

When Santa Claus Comes

What Does Santa Bring for Daddies?
A good time is coming, I wish it were here,
What does Santa bring for daddies, The very best time in the whole of the year;
Too old to want a toy?  I'm counting each day on my fingers and thumbs,
Wallets, watches, ties, and sweaters  the weeks that must pass before Santa Claus comes.
Don't make for much joy.
Then when the first snowflakes begin to come down,
What do daddies want for Christmas,  And the wind whistles sharp and the branches are brown,
Really, in their hearts?  I'll not mind the cold, though my fingers it numbs,
So perfect that they'd shriek like kids  For it brings the time nearer when Santa Claus comes.
Once the shredding starts?
A Catch by the Hearth
Oh, Daddy! Is there anything
You want beneath the tree?  Sing we all merrily
Other than, of course, to watch Me open gifts for me? Christmas is here,
The day that we love best
Of the days in the year.
From http://poemsforfree.com/index.html.
Bring forth the holly,
The box, and the bay,
The Grinch (exerpt) Deck out our cottage
For glad Christmas-day.
And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the
snow,  Sing we all merrily
Stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so?  Draw around the fire,
It came without ribbons. It came without tags.  Sister and brother,
It came without packages, boxes or bags.  Grandsire, and sire.
And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore.  Jingle Bells
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before.  ~James Lord Pierpont
What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a
store?  Jingle bells, jingle bells
What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more? Jingle all the way!
O what fun it is to ride
On a one-horse open sleigh
Once Their Was a Snowman Oh! Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way! Now you dear old man,
O what fun it is to ride Whisper what you'll bring to me,
On a one-horse open sleigh Tell me if you can.

Dashing through the snow When the clock is striking twelve,

On a one-horse open sleigh When I'm fast asleep,
Over fields we go Down the chimney, broad and black,
Laughing all the way With your pack you'll creep.
Bells on bob-tails ring All the stockings you will find,
Keeping spirits bright Hanging in a row,
Oh What fun it is to sing Mine will be the shortest one,
A sleighing song tonight You'll be sure to know.

Johnny wants a pair of skates,

Susie wants a sled,
Longer Christmas Poems for Kids Nelly wants a picturebook,
Yellow, blue and red,
Now I think I'll leave to you
What to give the rest;
Santa's Lap Choose for me, dear Santa Claus,
You will know the best.
I like to visit Santa Claus
When Christmastime is near. Rudolph, the Red-nosed Reindeer
It's fun to climb up on his lap ~Adapted by Johnny Marks
And whisper in his ear.
Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
He says, "My dear, have you been good? had a very shiny nose.
Have you done what Mother said you should? And if you ever saw it,
Do you brush your teeth and hair each day? you would even say it glows.
Are you kind to others when you play?
All of the other reindeer
I listen to each question used to laugh and call him names.
And answer every one. They never let poor Rudolph
Although I am ashamed to say join in any reindeer games.
I must say no to some.
Then one foggy Christmas Eve
But Santa never scares me; Santa came to say:
He doesn't even scold. “Rudolph with your nose so bright,
He just says, "Try again, my dear, won't you guide my sleigh tonight?”
You're a fine lad, I am told."
Then how the reindeer loved him
Gee, I like to visit Santa Claus and they shouted out with glee:
When Christmastime is near. “Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer,
It's fun to climb up on his lap you'll go down in history!
And whisper in his ear. Twas the Night before Christmas
~Clement Clarke Moore
Jolly Old Saint Nicholas
~Wilf Carter Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the
house
Jolly old Saint Nicholas, Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
Lean your ear this way, The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
Don't you tell a single soul In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.
What I'm going to say.
Christmas Eve is coming soon,
The children were nestled all snug in their beds, He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads. And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap, And laying his finger aside of his nose,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap. And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
Away to the window I flew like a flash, But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow

Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, Old Santeclaus
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tinny reindeer. ~Clement C. Moore

With a little old driver, so lively and quick, Old Santeclaus with much delight
I knew in a moment it must be St Nick. His reindeer drives this frosty night,
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, O’er chimney-tops, and tracks of snow,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name! To bring his yearly gifts to you.

"Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen! The steady friend of virtuous youth,
On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, Donner and Blitzen! The friend of duty, and of truth,
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall! Each Christmas eve he joys to come
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!" Where love and peace have made their home.

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly, Through many houses he has been,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky. And various beds and stockings seen;
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew, Some, white as snow, and neatly mended,
With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too. Others, that seemed for pigs intended.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof Where e’er I found good girls or boys,
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof. That hated quarrels, strife and noise,
As I drew in my head, and was turning around, I left an apple, or a tart,
Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound. Or wooden gun, or painted cart.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot, To some I gave a pretty doll,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot. To some a peg-top, or a ball;
A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back, No crackers, cannons, squibs, or rockets,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack. To blow their eyes up, or their pockets.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry! No drums to stun their Mother’s ear,
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry! Nor swords to make their sisters fear;
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow, But pretty books to store their mind
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow. With knowledge of each various kind.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth, But where I found the children naughty,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath. In manners rude, in temper haughty,
He had a broad face and a little round belly, Thankless to parents, liars, swearers,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly! Boxers, or cheats, or base tale-bearers,

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf, I left a long, black, birchen rod,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself! Such as the dread command of God
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head, Directs a Parent’s hand to use
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread. When virtue’s path his sons refuse.
What next? Wallets, watches, ties, and sweaters
Don’t make for much joy.

The Day Before Christmas
We have been helping with the cake, A Song Was Heard At Christmas
And licking out the pan, A song was heard at Christmas
And wrapping up our packages, To wake the midnight sky:
As neatly as we can. A saviour’s birth, and peace on earth,
We have hung our stockings up, And praise to God on high.
Beside the open grate. The angels sang at Christmas
And now there’s nothing more to do, With all the hosts above,
Except And still we sing the newborn King
To His glory and his love.
Wait. (Written by Timothy Dudley-Smith)

  Old Santa Claus
When Santa Claus Comes
Johnny wants a pair of skates
A good time is coming, I wish it were here,
Sussy wants a dolly
The very best time in the whole of the year; Nellie wants a story book
I’m counting each day on my fingers and thumbs – She thinks dolls are folly!
the weeks that must pass before Santa Claus comes. Choose for me old Santa Claus!
Then when the first snowflakes begin to come down,
And the wind whistles sharp and the branches are brown, Crumbs on the Snow
I’ll not mind the cold, though my fingers it numbs,
When it's winter and the snow
For it brings the time nearer when Santa Claus comes.
Like a tablecloth is spread,
  I remember hungry birds
Five Little Bells And see that they are fed.
Five little bells, hanging in a row. On their snowy tablecloth
The first one said, ring me slow. They find my gift of bread.
The second one said, ring me fast.
The third one said, ring me last. The Snowflake
The fourth one said, I’m like a chime. Before I melt,
The fifth one said, ring us all at one time! Come, look at me!
This lovely icy filigree!
