SECTION I: COLOURED GASES


Chlorine gas (Cl2): Greenish yellow Nitrogen dioxide (NO2): At different concentrations.

SECTION II: COLOURED LIQUIDS


Bromine (Br2): Reddish brown Mercury (Hg): Metallic

SECTION III: COLOURED SALTS


Ferrous (Fe2+) salts: All green except FeO. FeCl2.4H2O, and the exception FeO(Black):

Ferric (Fe3+) salts: All reddish brown. Fe2O3 powder:

Cupric (Cu2+) salts: All green except CuCO3 , CuO. CuSO4.5H2O and exceptions CuCO3 (Green), CuO(Black):

Dichromate (Cr2O72-) salts: All orange. K2Cr2O7 (Potassium dichromate):

Permanganate (MnO4-) salts: All purple. KMnO4 (Potassium permanganate):

Uncoloured salts (the remaining ions Na+, Cu+, NH4+, Cl-, SO42+…) are white, and transparent in solution,
except PbI2(Yellow).
CaSO4. ½H2O (Plaster of Paris) and the exception PbI2(Yellow).

SECTION IV: COLOURED NON-METALS


Sulphur (Octasulphur or S8): Yellow. Carbon (C): Diamond(Transparent) or Graphite(Black).

SECTION V: COLOURED METALS (OUTSIDE OF METALLIC GREY)


Copper (Cu): Reddish brown Gold (Au): Yellow
